Alfa finally realising there service intervals are too long.

 

I was told when I bought mine it was two years!?

 

Customers are told a lot of things, not all of those things are correct

 

Urgh, that will explain why my service book is missing, do they know what there doing, I've got a sticker on my windscreen I'll check that!

Why have we all been told 2 years!?

I've just checked the sticker it's behind my sun visor as I have it down permanently, it says next year! FFS! I'm sort of relieved didn't like the thought of it running on the same oil for two years!

 

Just been looking in the manual and it seems the service intervals on 2014 model is yearly as opposed to every 2 years.

I've just downloaded the latest Owner Manual for July 2014 (Euro 6) & it appears little has changed for the 1.4 petrol. The oil change interval has not changed & most of the 1 year/9K mls/15K kms listed items are visual checks

Cheers, I'm going to insist they post me a service book, it's inexcusable it's missing!

 

It's a similar story for the diesel cars

 

Mine is a 2014 and i have got 2 years servicing in my books but mine is a Tb not a multiair unit so that may be why

 

Mine is a 2010 and supposedly 2 years. But I refuse to leave oil in that long. Yearly/10k and the oil gets dropped.

 

The TB & MA have the same service schedule.

 

This applies to ALL new Mito and Giuliettas, petrol and diesel. Dealers were told about this end of May.

So a tad ambiguous, methinks. Although it is generally visual will they charge full wack anyway?
Nobody seems to know, will contact dealer and get back to you all..

Would be interesting to see if they charged full wack as then you may aswell have the full service

2 years did seem along time to me especially for oil as it picks up the contaminants of the engine and i could not see this being any good for lubrication or cooling (which oil assits with slightly) of the engine, turbo etc

I got told 1 year or 15.000 kms (whichever comes first) I brought mine to service after one year and it was only 4.700 kms...

 

Looking at the attachments again it basically looks like a safety check, like one of those summer or winter ones dealerships offed

To date I have never seen the "Oil Warning Light On" to indicate engine oil/filter require changing, but I have always stuck with annual oil changes since my motorbike days.

I was looking to see if my service interval had changed after finding engine oil degradation (sludge).

 

I was told 2 yr with maybe an oil change at 1 yr.

 

Told me to wait until the oil change message comes up or before 2 years, whichever first!

My own personnel rule of thumb is do replace petrol engine's oil once/year, and my diesels at twice/year. This from my experience has given me 100% engine oil related trouble free miles.
When warranty finishes I do my own maintenance, although my lad helps much more these days.

 

Twice a year is overkill on these modern engines in my opinion.

 

Easiest way to check your service interval is to bring up the miles to go till the next service on your dash. If it is every 12k miles the you are on annual servicing, if it is 18k miles you are every 2 years. The scheme was changed in May but many cars being sold will still be on the old system.

 

Oil change should be whenever the end of the dipstick gets to the colour of Coca-Cola.. or every year at the longest.

This goes double for MultiAirs, as they use the oil as hydraulic fluid for the MA valve control system too..
