Re: 96 spider 2.0 ts front sway bar end links rr

Hello all,

Have been lurking for some time but just now took delivery of a 96 spider 2.0 ts here in Dallas.
This car has been on my bucket list for 20plus years and I'm so excited to have the chance to own/drive one!
We also have a 87 spider and its so cool to be able to compare/appreciate their very unique personalities.

- back to reason for my post-

Need to replace both front sway bar end links for they are shot/making knocking noises.

Any tips that would be helpful to make this procedure easy?

From what I can tell, the entire nose of car needs to be lifted to avoid any pre-load/stress on either side of bar while replacing.

Any other guidance appreciated!

Thanks so much,

Adam

I think it's the drop links ( connecting the arb/sway to the wishbone )

These things - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/for-ALFA...43176?fits=Car+Make:Alfa+Romeo|Model:GTV&hash=item4d5391c248:g:SMoAAMXQI5tRg317

They're relatively straightforward. Soak the threads at the end of the arb/sway bar well in a release agent of your choice - expensive isn't necessarily the best
( see below before watching ) and as indicated the preload is the awkward bit. Don't bother on the stud going through the wishbone. If it shears, you've saved time, if the nut rounds off just get out the angle grinder.

If you want, you can get powerflex polyurethane bushes for the links now - https://www.powerflex.co.uk/road-series/products/GTV+&+Spider+2.0+&+V6,+916+(1995-2005)-901/1.html

That video - it probably includes language some may consider offensive. The WD40 result surprised me as I've never found it to be that effective.

Indeed the ebay link noted above is the proper sway bar end links. My pair came from ebspares in the uk and have the proper washers/nyloc nuts/etc.
My main concern was with making sure I was properly alleviating any pre-load on the bar before removing the end links so I don't get a bushing launched into my eyeball or something awful when I disconnect one end link or the other. If I raise the whole nose of the car and remove both front wheels, will this properly remove pre-load on either side? hope that makes sense...
thanks again!

thank you for this- exactly what I was trying to get specified!
Indeed after jacking entire nose up/putting on axle stands- a separate jack to push up lower front wishbone to relieve pressure on the lower arm/drop link assembly makes a lot of sense.

Hello all,

Have been lurking for some time but just now took delivery of legally imported 96 spider 2.0 ts here in Dallas.
How did you get it legally imported to the USA? :scratchchin:

It's not 25 years old yet. From 1996 to 2018 is only 22-odd years. Even if the car was actually manufactured in 1995, it's still too early for it to pass the 25-year antique vehicle barrier.
