The "service coupon expired" message on my 64 plate 2.0 JTDM-2 came up in June 2015 after around 20,000km - had it serviced at local Fiat Group dealer (think it was roughly £200)....

I now have the same message up again - only 6 months later with about 40,000km on the odo???

Local Fiat garage now quoting £400 for this service.

I do around 25,000 miles a year - 75% plus of that is high speed motorway driving...

Is this normal? Serviced 6 months ago but now due in again after covering roughly 12,500 miles?

The revised service schedule from around Apr/May 2014 requires an inspection/service every 12k miles / 20k Kms or every year (which ever comes first), see your Owner Manual for full details.

It is best to get the oil changed every 10,000 miles on these engines. The official intervals are far too long if you want your engine and turbo to last.

If the service is coming up at 12500 miles make sure they change the oil and filter, and not just do an inspection.

Pre 2014 service interval for diesels was 2 years or 21,000 miles. Since 2014 it's changed to 1 year or 12,000 miles.

The first year or 12,000 mile inspection is literally just a check over, they don't even change the oil unless you ask them to, but the second inspection should be a proper service. Personally I'd get the oil & filter changed at every 12,000 mile inspection - even though my diesel MiTo is on the old 2 year/21,000 mile interval I've gone with annual oil changes. Partly because I might keep it several years out of warranty (depending what Alfa/Fiat do with their product line-ups in the next few years) but also because I don't fancy my chances with the turbo, particulate filter and (on mine) a cam-chain, which relies on the engine oil for lubrication, if I leave the oil in it for 2 years at a time without changing it.

If it's a company car and you'll be getting shot of it at 3 or 4 years, it's up to you, though because it's got to see a dealer every 12k, it's not really a big ask to get the oil & filter done at the same time I suppose :)
