The AA have just launched a mobile service service! ... from ÂŁ149 for a full service. Might be interesting to get a quote off their new website ...

Hello all.... After reading all this helpful info I am sorry to say that I am still confused. My Mito is approaching 12 months old and has covered just under 8,000 miles. I want to get the oil and filter changed for the sake of good practice as much as warranty.

The handbook says this should happen if it has covered under 6,000 miles or has done a lot of city driving. It has done a lot of city driving and some decent longer trips and is obviously comfortably over 6,000. My questions are:

- Does the book get a stamp for this so-called 'low mileage' service? Alfa (Lookers Cardiff) want ÂŁ161.56 to change oil and filter - ÂŁ114.56 labour and ÂŁ47 parts. Labour seems a lot.
- If I were to leave it til 2 years or 18,000 miles that still seems to be within the terms of warranty. The Selenia oil is called 20K..... supposedly good for 20,000km or c.12,00 miles. This seems at odds with the warranty if you can leave it in for 18,000 with no questions asked.
- If I took it somewhere else would I need to prove that the oil was changed at a certain time or with a particular brand (i.e. Selenia)?

I hope that makes sense.

It's simple:

Get the car serviced and booked stamped at the mileage
specified in the manual.

Additionally if you want to get further oil changes then
go ahead, whether that be annually, every 10K miles or
every 1000 miles. (As some on here may say is necessary.)

It's up to you as the owner of the car.

if you dont mind travelling outside Cardiff give LC motors a ring and see if they will do it cheaper, much much more reliable than Lookers, i would never take my QV to Lookers LC number is 01633259892 ask for craig hes fab and knows a lot about alfas, he has a 156 SW.....oh and you will get a courtesy car if you need one, Lookers rarely have a CC....

Too far for you, but for comparison my local indie has a Alfa Mito Servicing Costs page.

I wonder if there's something intrinsically expensive about the Alfa's service schedule for the Mito. I mean, compare the servicing costs the Mito and 159/Brera, they seem disproportionate. Or maybe OEM parts haven't filtered(sic) through to the indies yet.
Cheers for that Padders, yeah I see what you mean about the service costs for the MiTo being disproportionate. I was kinda expecting to pay cira ÂŁ250 for the 18k service, but it looks like the price of servicing only seems to increase thereon after (and is much more than any of the previous models). Its a bit dissapointing to discover these 'hidden' costs to Mitownership, it's not quite a ferrari or lambo - but I suppose it's worth it for such a gr8 little motorcar.
Looking back at that page, I notice that the prices are now substantially lower (ÂŁ156 for the 18,000 service). :)

The power of AO or just a coincidence??? ......I guess we'll never know.

if you look at page 35 of the service book that came with the car you'll see at the top of the page that it says 'oil and oil filter change records' its separate from the service record which is every two years, oil and filter changes should be done if the car covers less than 6000 miles a year but i would have it changed every year just for peace of mind

Sorry I hadn't made it to page 35... I just flicked through to the service records bit. I still don't understand how an oil rated for 12,00 miles is 'recommended' to last for 18,000. But hey! Thanks... might as well go for the AA interim service at ÂŁ132 then.

Looking back at your previous posts am I right in thinking you would be using Selenia 20K for your oil change? The Alfa recomended oil for your model is Selenia StAR P.E. 5W- 40 ACEA C3 grade. Think this has been produced to give the longer service intervals to keep 'in service' costs down - good for the manufacturer when selling the car - not so sure it is for optimum protection of the engine.

Looking at other 'makes' of oil it seems like other than Selenia only Fuchs are offering 5W-40 to Acea C3 spec. at the moment. GSF are big stockists of Fuchs products but I am not sure if they can supply this grade 'off the shelf'.

Don't think you need to go for a full service at your mileage. Why not get an Alfa Independent to change the oil and filter with the recommended products for about half the price you were qouted from Lookers Cardiff. This will give Alfa less chance of a 'get out of jail free card' if you have any future warranty issues.

Halford sell an own make oil which is 5w- 40 and is marked up ACEA C3
Can't find anything listed on their website trawling through manually and nothing comes up on the 'choosing the right oil' guide either. All it says is 'no matching products found for your car'. Have you anymore details of what you found in Halfords please?. It would be handy to have somewhere local to get the right oil even if it is only for topping up.

Hi all

Just to add my twopennorth worth!

Just had my cars 1st service and oil change and filters done at 21k. Done at Stoneacre in Doncaster at a VERY reasonable cost of ÂŁ138.74!

Having been quoted minimum ÂŁ240 at 2 other places i rang i confirmed the price 3 times before booking her in!:) They even washed her, hoovered her and blacked her wheels as a bonus!

Stoneacre used to be an Alfa main dealer but are now Fiat but are still Alfa registered for service so all parts etc used are genuine.

As an added extra I have now signed up to a DD of just over ÂŁ17 a month that will cover my next service and so on as long as i keep paying it! They take an average service cost for your vehicle, ave annual mileage and work out your cost per mth..then you just pay that. MUCH better than paying out all at once imho!
:p

Also, get 10% off any parts/labour/MOT for the future too.....

To say i was impressed with them is the understatement of the year...would recommend to anyone...and they`ve got a fair few dealerships dotted around the country so there may be one near you!

Cheers! :)

ÂŁ17 for 12 months or is it based on when they think you are due the next service

Alfabliss...I was pleasantly surprised! Even more so when the girl who booked it in said they used Alfa recommended pricing so she wondered why i`d queried it several times! And i know we`re tight sods up North but its a good benchmark i thought!:p

DavidP... The ÂŁ17 quid is based on the ave cost of my next service and the approx time it will take me to cover the mileage (about 16 months based on what i`m doing at the moment.) There is a chance i could end up paying 1 or 2 months extra if i dont do the mileage but to be honest, the convenience of paying monthly outweighs that for me... and the fact they were reasonable for costs means i`ll prob still end up paying less than taking it elsewhere..if that makes sense!

Besides, its always a good excuse to go for a run.. "i NEED to put more mileage on!"

Clare :)

PS - if anyone can give me a quick, idiot proof lesson on how to quote in my replies please do...i`m a bit dense when it comes to `technical` stuff!! ta!:p

No bother

One more thing I forgot to say above is when Multi-Quoting you need to hit the Quote button on the last post to reply or the Post Reply button at the end of the page.

Had two quotes so far ÂŁ333.21 from one garage, ÂŁ297.27 from another and the third one didn't even bother to get back to me. Not good! :(
Quoting cos i know how to now:lol:!

:wow: thats ridiculous! Move to Doncaster, the move must be cheaper than the extra you`d spend on service costs!

Just a thought..maybe worth printing this thread to use as ammo when they are quoting daft money?

Can`t acutually believe the cost difference from one place to another!

Clare :)
