2 flipping weeks?!

So the complete shower of barstewards at Dutton Foreshaw Cardiff have had my car for 2 weeks to remedy stuff that shouldnt have been bust in the first place.

My car arrived by delivery from DF themselves with scratches all over every panel and scuffs on the door card and headlight surround.

They took the car back and got a local hire firm to deliver a ghastly 207 diesel as a loan car.

1 week in the hire firm turn up asking for the loan car back saying it had come to the end of its hire agreement and that for the previous 4 days I was driving around in this thing uninsured and illegally

The person at the dealer claimed the hire firm at fault.

at the same time I asked when my car would be ready, surely a week is enough to sort the body work and replace the cluster surround and door card, bearing in mind I was told no parts were to be ordered and that they would be "nicked" of stock cars (not too happy about this as I want brand new parts) I was told car would be ready mid week this week.

Its now friday and I dont even have a courtesy call.

Steer clear of these idiots, read tess's thread to see what issues she's had with them (despite her mate being a salesman)

They are a classic example of showroom fcukwits and don't deserve anyones money.

Write to them (recorded delivery of course) and give them a date to sort it by (such as 28.8.2009) and state that if you do not have a completely satisfactory car returned to you, or a new one, by this date that you will be rejecting the car and be pursuing a full refund and expenses through the courts as the car was not fit for purpose.

That should get them moving, also, if you don't mind hand over a few score, then get a solicitor to send the letter for extra fun.

Play nice and they'll take forever, get them worried and you'll get much better service - the key points to remember are choosing the best phrases to use... ;)

FYI you can't reject a car that easily, you have to allow the dealer at least a few opportunities to rectify a specific problem. So don't threaten the dealer or waste your time & money by making statements that are pointless.

Sorry, I must have missed the bit where it was stated that rejecting a car was easy...

Put it this way, do nothing now as per the above post and if this is still going on in 6 months time you wouldn't be able to do much about the car or dealer; start getting things in writing if you are getting hacked off and you'll be able to go back to it at a later date if you need it.

The key thing is know your rights and deal with it how you want to, if you need some advice rather than forum opinions you could do a lot worse than trying these guys first - Consumer Direct

Sorry I must have missed the bit where I said to do nothing

I just pointed out what not to waste time doing, ie :

Write to them (recorded delivery of course) and give them a date to sort it by (such as 28.8.2009) and state that if you do not have a completely satisfactory car returned to you, or a new one, by this date that you will be rejecting the car and be pursuing a full refund and expenses through the courts as the car was not fit for purpose.
I don't think a few scratchs & scuffs qualify as a reason to reject or to class a car as not fit for purpose

Just my forum opinion btw

I know a fair bit about consumer rights and the law and Im quite old fashioned in my way of thinking whereby I dont believe after spending 12 thousand pounds that I should start threatening legal action to get a satisfactory service.

These people are wise also, they know that a car rejection just isn't going to happen or that I will go down the road of courts as it's expensive and rarely ends up with any kind of outcome aside from your solicitor making money

If it continues I will be dealing with things the good old fashioned way and my **** will be sat firmly on someones desk welcoming every customer who walks into the showroom on their busiest day with a real view on their "service"

lol, I take that back then! Must have got the posts mixed up after a few beers last night as I thought there really was something wrong with the car rather than just paint. :)

It's extremely poor service that, but really you shouldn't have taken delivery of it until it was sorted or agreed to be sorted, not that it helps much now.

Good luck with getting it sorted though...

alfabungle i soo sorry to read about ur probs with DF and u deserve to be treated properly after spendin so much money...Spaek to Martyn Evans the company director directly and see wat he has to say...write to him and aruk and fiatuk recorded delivery outlining ur complaint and the way u hav been treated and see wat happens...thats as far as i had to go and mine was sorted (there were a few tears along the way too..it pays to be a girl)

aruk intervened and sorted things for me and were really supportive, julian the manager was very good too, im not stickin up for them cos my mate is the salesman, i hope u dont think that, but they did sort out all the babes probs and continue to do so, so i cant really diss them, tho i think they could hav better communication skills.

urs is slightly different tho as its a lease car isnt it?? i hav heard that the lease dept is not that good, and the valeters are absolute crap, i dont know why they dont get rid.. i think u would be better talkin/writin to Martyn and see wat he cna do cos after all its his business that is lettin peeps down and he cant afford to lose sales...

if u want any info let me know and i will try to help....hope it all comes right for you hun i feel ur pain and know exactly wat ur goin thru

the original post seems a bit of an overreaction ("OMG, my car is irrepairably SCUFFED!"). scratches can easily form on the paintwork (my mito is scratched a lot but you can't really notice it from afar), there's no need to start plotting an assassination of your dealership.

as for the hire car, if you weren't given any documents explaining how long you have hired the car for i would be surprised.. you can't trust the dealership to get you a hire car and hope it is all legitimate as it is your responsibility to be insured at all times.

I'm sorry i disagree.....

The original post was commenting on the customer service....or lack of...

DF's put the customer in a car, the rental agreement would have been between DF and the hire company so there is a very good chance that there was no paperwork, aside from something to sign to say that he had the car and any damage that was on it....

If i has paid 12K for a car i would expect it to be concourse, I would feel the same if i found that my new car was damaged, and TBH if this has been done in house then the valeters deserve to be sacked if they caused this...it doesn't matter if it is PCH, finance or cash, you are still paying out for it

It's been two weeks you say...you have a lot more patience than me, i would have raised hell by now...

Good luck with getting your car sorted

So you're telling me you'd be happy buying a brand new car and it turning up with scratches on every panel and a large scuff mark on the door card and headlight surround? If i'd have damaged it myself then fair enough but this was my brand new car and brand new does not equal scratches and damage

like anything bought new I expect it to be new.

When I pointed this out to the dealer rep [upon delivery his oinly response was "ah yeah, our valeters are sh111t"

Theyve had the car for 2 weeks and not even given me a courtesy call

Its not much to expect the dealer to sort out the loan car, it shouldnt be my responsibility to ensure it's been booked correctly

So no, I dont think im overreacting

Personally, I'd be heart broken if my new car was delivered to me with visible damage such as that you describe. I mean my 4 year old GT is, apart from some minor scuffing under the nose (I'm sure that's a syndrome any GT owner is familiar with) totally scratch/scuff/ding free - it is absolutely ridiculous to receive a brand new car with ANY damage at all on it in my opinion. My heart goes out to you Alfabungle - the service you're receiving (well, NOT receiving) only adds insult to injury.

The reason Im following this thread is to watch this dealers workings, sure enough my initial thoughts have been confirmed, they really are this bad!
The Salesmen are clueless and dim! Service dept Braindead! And as for the Head of Sales or whoever is in charge:wow::wow::wow:
If you cant do it then dont.
If you must, then admit youll try harder.
I was told that the results from the Alfa Surveythat I gave were the lowest they had had!... ''since they had been selling Alfa''
Avoid at all costs. Cost being very appropriate me thinks:tut::tut:

It gets better.....

So this morning I get a call from the hire company who are hiring the loan car to me, it went a little like this:
"Hello sir when can we come pick up the car as the hire ran out yesterday"

You can imagine the torrent of abuse that came out of my mouth to the unsuspecting hire worker, of which I apologised profusely for.

So despite Dutton Foreshaw telling me after this happened last week that they had put the car on "indefinate hire" the instructions they actually gave the hire firm was to put it on another 4 day hire and give me a call to arrange pick up after.

This is also bearing in mind Ive still had no call to say when my car will be ready its now over two weeks

So I put in a call to dealer who again claim innocence. I state its not my responsibility to administer his repair jobs

Im also told my car will be ready for tomorrow.

I ask why it's taken over two weeks to polish the paintwork and replace a light surround and door card and was told "to be honest we couldnt find anything wrong with the light surround"

Now, ive not got the perfect eyesight but it's a 1-2inch scuff plain as anything, even the delivery guy said "oh dear thats not good".

I state the car had better be perfect else it's going stright back.

FUMING

Steer clear of these idiots, they dont deserve your business.
