Hi

Anyone know how easy (or not) it is to replace the injectors on a 2.4. I've got one that's faulty (not sure which one - how do I find this out myself) and need to replace it.

Cheers

This is easy to do:
1 remove electric connector
2 remove the hoseclip on top of the injector, and pull the return hose of the injector
3 remove high pressure line from injector
4 undo the retaining nut that pushes the injector in the head
5 pull and wiggle the injector out of the head.

There should be a copper gasket on the injector then is out of the cilinderhead. If you refit the injector ALWAYS use a new copper gasket!

Very difficult to tell if you don`t have the right test equipment.
You can measure the return of one injectors and compare with the rest, but that will not tell you everyting.

Best you can do is take all 5 out and let them test at a Bosch diesel specialist. Prior to testing they will put them in a ultrasonic cleaner to clean the nozzles.
In the test bench they will test the internal leakage, delivered mg diesel, opening time, spray pattern, etc.
After this test, you will know if they are within specs.

When you take them out for testing, mark them with a permanent marker so you know from with cilinder they came. This is because of injector trim that is stored in the ECU.
When one or more are defective and you replace them with new, you have to put the new "trim" value in the ECU. This can be done with "Examinar" at the dealer, or you can do it yourself with FiatEcuScan. The "trim" value is put on top of the injector.

ALSO first try to put your Airconditioning off... maybe the cause for the rough idling !

before you go taking them out, with the ignition switched off remove the electrical connector from the injectors one by one spray some electrical contact cleaner up them and either if you have an air line blow them out with a little air (gently) or let them dry, reconnect and try it see what its like, i cured a horrible running fault on a GT this way you would have sworn an injector had gone down but this fixed it a treat.

goodluck

The car shakes when idle (not always though - only after a long run) but the revs never dip though. It was just a comment from AHM where I had my remap done (he done a regen last month and noticed it then) and advised feels like one of the injectors may be faulty. That's why I need to know how to check them. Might get it done at a garage as it sound like you need to tell the ECU about new ones - bit of a faf if you havn't got the leads and software.
