Questions about radio device replacement

Hi,

I recently bought a 2011 Alfa Giulietta and am really happy about it.
But the only thing that bugs me is (in my opinion) the poor radio device that's built in because the lack of decent bluetooth connectivity.

So I am on the fence of buying a 2 din media receiver (Sony XAV-AX1000), the proprietary 2 din panel for the dashboard and a steering wheel interface.
Since this is my first car and have zero to no knowledge of the obstacles I might face, are there any things I might look out for?
Do I have to wire any cables from the aftermarket steering wheel interface to the wiring harness that's included in the box of the media receiver and what's the best approach to do so?

Because if I am not mistaken, the ISO cable will be attached/wired to the SWI and the cables that're coming from the car will be plugged into the SWI, right?

If there are any suggestions/tips you guys can spare, that would be very much appreciated!

It should be quite straightforward to do. Remove old trim and radio, cut behind dash small amount, plug adaptor into car wiring and the into new radio. Fit new trim....

You.may need to get a proxi alignment done though [emoji848]

Take pictures and do a guide for others to follow!

done my 62 plate G, was all in all a 20 min job. Remove the original dash, remove radio and blue and me box to the left (if you have one), cut top and bottom from dash where radio sat, use ‘connects 2’ steering wheel iso harness adapter, align plates and new radio, install new dash.

fire up MES on your laptop and run a proxi alignment.

I know these instructions are vague but if you want me to into detail about any point let me know.

The whole process is a bit vague if I am being honest compared to my father's Kia c'eed :D.
But I got it working after 3 hours last Friday.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get any clear pictures during the process of doing so but I will give you this... Trial and error is your best mate.
I've tried to insert the device multiple times after it fit after cutting the top piece of the plastic dash and a couple of corners (see picture).

And I didn't notice someone mention this but the insertion pins of the fascia need to be placed beforehand (see picture), after some struggle I managed to transfer the pins from the original fascia to the 2 din one.

Screwed the included brackets (that came with the fascia) to the device and mounted it into the car after plugging everything in of course, now the device fits perfectly with the 2 DIN fascia (couldn't get any pictures as I was so excited, if someone requests it, I will post some of the finished product).

If you want my opinion about the media player? If you have an iPhone and are planning to do everything with your phone, want a seemless transistion with your car and don't care if the radio is (kinda) dependent with your iPhone? The Sony XAV-AX1000 is your best bet.

Really happy with it after spending 420 Euros on the radio, fascia and SWI harness.

Thank you everyone for the messages!

Hi Zamas, that looks great! I'd be happy with that. The head unit is sleek as well, shame the Android Auto variants from Sony are so much more expensive.
Carav don't seem to do the fascia for RHD, but this gives me the confidence to try another manufacturer.
And good to know proxi alignment should not be required (y)

That's a shame indeed as some people in my house have a Android phone and I am the only one with a iPhone. It was a couple 100 Euros extra which I can't afford. They should the Bluetooth function instead :D.

I am really happy with the headunit as the sound processing of the Sony is really good as is the touchscreen and the interface. You can also customize the steering wheel buttons to your liking through the headunit if needed which was a welcome surprise.
