The GTA was in for loss of water (corroded pipe, all changed) but got call from garage to say that the rear tie rod was badly bent.
I have no idea of how this happened, it passed its MOT in April and the only place it has been is the body shop (was there 3 weeks). They didn't do any work at the rear and say they don't know anything about it. Anyway, its all fixed now but look at the state of it...

That would have given you massive rear toe-out on the left, which would have made the car crab sideways in a straight line and made it very unstable in right hand bends.

So, how much had you driven it before taking to the garage...?

Thing is, I hadn't noticed it. I had it back from the body shop for a few weeks before it went in to get the water leak looked at. Rear tyre was ok, not worn on the shoulder.

Makes me wonder how fresh it is...any sign of side impact on the tyre? So an impact fold, rather than a compression from below...? Bit of malarky in the parking area, whacked a kerb - wouldn't be the first time the YTS kid has had to hide in the loo when the customer comes back...

Garage mech reckoned its a jack job. Alloy is perfect. Thing is I know both the bodyshop owner and garage owner well, have used them both for years......Im at a loss as to how it happened. At a loss cost wise aswell as I had to pay for it :(

Don't think so. I have been racking my brain on all sorts of scenarios, and nothing has happened...

Seen similar damage when a car is correctly jacked and then let down on to an object, usually the axle stands that have just been moved out from correct locations and forgotten. The car creaks, the car gets jacked back up, the obstacle removed, no one thinks anymore about it.

A garage did just that fri an old Ford orion I had and dented the floor upwards by the rear passenger footwell. Their fix was to hit the resulting lump with a hammer it would appear.
