just a quick bit of research (and fun)

what sort of range of times are we all achieving planting your foot down at 50mph up to 70mph in 4th gear? - bit more realistic than the normal car mag 5th gear slog which will break most petrols ;-)

would like a full range of engines and types of fuel and ideally remapped cars to get some benchmarks

obviously to be done on a level bit of motorway when its safe to do so ;-)

post away....

standard 2.4 q4 sw (heavy!) one driver (heavy) and full tank of juice - just a smidge below 5 seconds

I'll try it and let you know after my trip home on Friday ;)

Then on November 1st I'll try it again :D

If I floor my car in 4th at 50mph I can feel the gear box and clutch shaking because I have too much torque at that speed :(

(I can do 50-100 using 3rd and 4th in a smidge over 10 seconds though )

and people say Brera's are slow   that is a bloody good time

cool - 50 - 75mph - alfa comes pretty well up especially when you consider the twin turbo cars in the group

Porsche Boxster S 3,9 50-75 through the gears! no wonder i can keep up with them! before anyone says sublime handling etc etc i've driven one - yes good but not that good IMO my old aircooled 3.8 could kick their buts dispite having a big lump of alloy hanging out the ass end :)

Gave it a try on the way home ... 4th was a rather disappointing 4.1 seconds :( ... 3rd on the other hand a much more respectable 2.8

I'll get my stop watch out

Around the 4.5s mark for a remapped 147 JTD 16v m-jet.

Couldn't do it without the clutch slipping a bit though

To do this right, do you hold the car at 50 then hit the throttle or accelerate from 40, start the stopwatch at 50 and stop it at 70? I reckon I could get a far lower time with the turbo already spinning accelerating hard from 40mph.

Coolio, I did it right! Official readout was 4.6 something but I'm not that confident in the accuracy of holding exactly 50, the timing of my fat thumb as I'm driving and catching it as it hits bang on 70 so I'm saying around the 4.5 second mark!

Not my car of course as it may invalidate my warranty - a friends...

3.6 seconds! I AM ABSOLUTELY AMAZED! amazingly close to the p box (saying alot for the p box IMO) - you may be wondering why i'm selling the unused pbox on ebay? basically my insurance didnt like it but was ok with a remap! seems daft but my insurance isnt a normal one as its trader policy for modified vehicles - so not exactly the norm....

A shade under 5 seconds for me :)

But I have to say that 50mph in 4th equates to 2100rpm which isn't the best revs for the Brera to take off from :(... now 3rd is a different matter :D

I can't wait to see what the difference is post 1st November ;)

Exactly!
Appropriate gear for the road speed/engine speed blah dee blah.
:D
4th will knock on the door of 100mph (if you are on a private track) so asking for full welly at 50 is not ideal.
;)

Not in mine it isn't hence why I said what I did

Now give me 2500 - 2750rpm and it's a different mater :D

agree its all about right gear... right time with the diesel power band (or lack of it) loads of torque but all over in 2500 rev band

thats why a lot of petrol drivers cant get to grips with a performance diesel IMO - rev teh nacks of it and go nowhere - or assume grunt from 1500rpm

my last motor had a centrifugal charger on it (was 400bhp prior to teh supercharger) - short changing was also a requirement - as the back end would try to overtake you any anything more than 4k! good fun but tiresome after a long day at work on the way home on teh M56 in rush hour
