heeelp..we have a problem with 166 2.4 JTD 136 hp.it will not start we tried with another camshaft and crankshaft sensors,hi pressure fuel pump, and many things ..still nothing..there is no faulty codes in ecu memory..before that it was one error cam and cranck sens.are not being consolidated ,but its ok now after retiming the engine..we checked a problem called JTD breakdown on this forum, thats not it......and something else, the another day we are testing components(crank sensor shut off) and ECU didnt log this problem like on the other car (implausiblle signal crank sensor)????

Had the same symptom and detected two problems.

The first one was a fried relay (the one that controls the low pressure fuel pump in the tank). You have to check if there is pressure in the common rail first.

The second one turned out to be a defective fuse (not burnt out) of the immobiliser. One pin of the fuse was shifting inside the plastic body and therefore the contact with the socket was poor. Every sunny day, the high temperature of the cockpit led to deformations of the fuse block, therefore no more contact and the immobilizer did'nt his job.

It took me more than a month to figure it out. In the morning and in the evening everything was fine. At noon i had no more Alfa. I've changed both the sensors (crank and camshaft) also the high pressure valve. Several mechanics including the local Alfa dealer tested the car repeatedly but no errors showed up.

Must add that my Alfa revved but did not start.
