I was looking for clues as to why the cruise control was not working on my -06 1.9 jts 159 when the following happened:
Right after succesfully connecting an obd reader and firing up the ignition, starting the reading process, all possible fault lights and counters began blinking or light up. That's something i haven't encountered in other cars (maybe a self-diagnostic?) But more concerning was the fact that now the dash lcd was showing messages like ''car protection system failure'' and ''airbag fault''. Well i let the reader do it's job and got the codes and decided to finish it there and not fiddle around with the car anymore.
After reinserting the key and reigniting with shaking hands i noticed to my relief that there were no concerning lights or messages but one: The airbag fault light is now on and does not go away with restarting. The car has had no other issues with the air bag fault light and it clearly was triggered right after the obd read started so the culprit must be the semi-cheap obd reader. (A handheld type, not a pro one but not one of them bluetooth cheapos either.)
Is there reason for serious concern? How is it possible that an obd reader causes such a freak out on the car's systems?? How do i get the light and fault reset?
Help much appreciated.

Ps. If you have a clue about the culprit behind these cruise control-related codes, please share:
