Hey,
Ive put my car tentatively up for sale in the classifieds as im mulling over swapping for a v6, i doubt ill have much luck with a swap deal though so i mite have to take the cash and go out and find a v6 i reckon. Anyone want to talk me out of what my dad thinks is a stupid idea?
If i did buy the v6, would i be the youngest owner of one on here? Im 20, not 21 till April.
Thanks,
Iain

I am 22....as said expect insurance to be high...and your fuel bills higher ;)

I went from an 05 156 2.0 JTS Veloce...the difference in sound/performance is fantastic :D....definitely worth it imo

I've only had the 2.0 for a couple of months but it's plenty fast enough for me and in this day and age you hardly ever get a chance to open it up anyway what with crap road surfaces, traffic, speed cameras etc so for me the extra insurance/fuel costs wouldn't be worth it. And as I said on the insurance forum you'd have to drive the v6 like a nun as an SP30 would probably bankrupt you.

Having said that I very nearly got the V6 and if you can afford it then go for it they are awsome machines...i'm pretty sure I'll end up with one at some point but maybe with a few more years ncb, a bigger wage and a method of making petrol out of tap water ;).

I have driven 1.6, 1.7 Boxers I moved on from them to 1.8 TS then upgraded to a 2.0 TS. I bought a 3Ltr V6 GTV in the summer! Bloody awsome car! I am now looking at the 3.2 V6 GT. Then I shall wait for Alfa to bring out a bigger engine. :D By the way I am only 5ft 3Inchs! Do you think I may be trying to compensate for something???? :cheese:

Tell you what mate, if you can afford it and you can find someone to insure you. You will not regret owning one of these awsome machines.

I'm 21 and am looking at getting a 166 Super (3.0i V6 226BHP) and I don't think it's that expensive for insurance, around ÂŁ400 with my 3 years NCB.

I say do it mate, they are bloody quick those GTV V6's, you will be smoking the asses off of every other guy your age!

Saxo VTR?! Do one!!!! Golf GTi?! Jog on!!!

Yeah about that mate, at the moment you are probably getting around 30MPG, and with the 3 Litre V6 you will be getting around 20MPG.

If I had it though I'd be getting around 15MPG as when I had my 156 V6 2.5 I was achieving 18MPG.

But I do drive rather excitedly.

A great car, if you can stomach the running costs. I had one when I was 22 and loved it, the unsurance wasn't that bad but I did third party fire and theft. If you should get swayed towards one though get one that is LHD, it surprised me how quickly I adjusted and any RHD ones will usually have been done with steering racks from other FIATs like the regatta ruining the incredibly precise steering that the integrale has.

V6 Alfa should be a lot kinder on your wallet though.

Insurance... I'm 24 and have been driving for 6 years now, had no accidence's and somehow, have a clean license too. Due to driving on my mums insurance till i was 20 and changing cars mid-policy i only have 2 years no claims. My 2.0 GTV is insured for ÂŁ1,400. The 3.0 would have cost me ÂŁ2,400 (these are the cheapest quotes from Insurance Hypermarket and Confused). Be warned! (unless, you have any top tips for getting it cheaper).

Thanks!!!! Ill try not to steal the message thread with insurance (but i guess it's relevant when we're young drivers with powerful cars). I have the quotes down to ÂŁ870... Confused.com used to give me the best quotes... so i converted to using solely these sites - How wrong! Good job i only brought 28xdays cover to start with!

The Lancia is a stupid idea, id love to get the chance to drive one somehow but dont know of anywhere where i could. It would cripple me the first time it went wrong if i bought one.
I've got my quote through bell which i think is part of the admiral group. If i dont get any luck with some kind of px/swap deal then i mite have to sell my car privately, save up for a bit and buy the v6 for my 21st.

I would if I were you mate, insurance does go down a hell of alot at 21, and then even more so when you turn 25. Christ knows what I'll get at 25, in 3 years time, probably an el cheapo second hand S2000 for a laugh, probably my fiancee's dads if he decide to ever sell it.
