On the radio with mp3 playback I just have to press the "CD" button twice. The first time it goes to the CD function, when I press it again it goes into "AUX" mode (not CD changer). As far as I know there is no sense for the radio to know if the cable is actually connected.

My previous radio didn't have a dedicated "CD" key, the key combination to get into aux mode might be different.

guys. aux if 159 radio supports this is on yellow connector. from my experience no all radios supports this , i had 2005 159 without mp3 and radio didnt have pins for yellow connector, and blue stared working only when i used cd changer simulator - there is digital interface line in blue over which radio talks to changer and only if it see it responding, i allows cd changer enabled.
in my current 2010 159 i have radio with mp3 and with pins for yellow connector. i cant remember if aux was available straight away, as soon after i bought the car i retrofitted blue and ne unit so occupied yellow connector.however once i was doing some wark in my car, i unplugged blue and me, run proxi allignment from mes, and then noticed that aux is available when b&m unit is out. im not sure if aux become available because i had changed some of proxi settings for audio input or if factiry settings wiuld allow this. anyway, conclusion, radio without pins on yellow allows cd changer simulator for fiat/alfa and other radios allows additionally aux as long as b&m unit is not in (but may recquire activation in proxi)

What is a cd changer simulator?

Proxi alignment from MES?

How do j change the proxi settings for audio? Sounds like that's exactly what I have to do!

CD changer emulator, e.g:
Yatour-Digital CD Changer,Digital Music Changer,iPod Adapter,Intelligent Parking Assist,AMI,KVW - Products - YATOUR Digital Media Changer YT-M07
it will work in any 159 connecting to blue mini ISO connector on back of your radio. does not require proxi alignment/mes to activate.

Just for future reference, MES:
Multiecuscan - Diagnostics software for Italian cars
you need full license for Proxi (where you setup some car settings and activate/deactivate various car pheriperals - e.g. one one adds B&M unit, needs to do proxi alignment procedure)
but sounds like you do not have pins for yellow connector, so you do not need to bother about MES/Proxi to see/change aux radio setup.

ok. fyi, i have also b&m i do not want to get rid off. when i get a time (autumn im doing 2 months unpaid leave) i'm going to mock up some aux adder, so i could still use b&m but could add bluetooth audio streaming device and connect it to adder 2nd aux in. when i do this, surely i will share schematics, bom and instructions.

I´m now using B&M with Dension Lite Bluetooth.
It´s all about setup your phone correctly. Im using app called "Bluetooth Auto Connect", for B&M using setting "Call Audio HSP" and for Dension music streaming "Media Audio A2DP". Both units are connected to my phone simultaneously. Simple, Im listening to my spotify in Alfa, and when someone call, music pause and B&M is active, and I can normally use it for call :) . When I end up my call, music automatically starts to play :).

Oh, and for Dension, steering wheel control is working perfectly without doing nothing, plug&play :)

I have dension lite bluetooth in Giulietta, and I didn't recommended it in purpuse. on paper looks good, in real it is bit of pain (at least in pre lift Giulietta. I made many complaints, I got the unit replaced, but still the same.
First A2DP bluetooth streaming quality is rather so so. Not sure if this is because it has only BT ver 2.0 and maybe supports some poor/old type codec? Secondly, it shows sometimes odds in behaviour - like toggling between phone and handsfree every a few seconds (happended with 2 different phones a few times over 2 years). Also, there are issues with sound level by default - on standard settings playing both MP3 on USB or BT streaming overdrives the output, so the sound is completely distorted, even hard to stand (such unplesant for ears and probably for speakers). It is possible to lower phone volume or upload some configuration file into Dension (via USB stick) to lower gain, but the problem that first level which removes distortions causes that all gets very quiet, so e.g. I need to set Volume to 20 to listen from Dension, and then if I forget and turn on radio it damages my hear (normally I listen radio on say 6?).
Not sure if this is exclusive problem with Giulietta, but just sharing my experiences.
I have plans to add/build some pre-amp between Dension and aux in of radio, so I could lower gain on Dension via config file. Hopefully that will solve the issue.

In my earlier 159'2005 I had Xcarlink, it had only USB, SD, jack in and steering wheel buttons controls (no handsfree, no bluetooth), but it had occassional problems with power-up (required turning off/on radio again to start - on 2nd time it always worked), as well as not always all folders with MP3s were seen by radio (depended on amount of folders and amount of files within each). I complained to seller, got newer unit for tests, but still was the same.

I mentioned Yatour, I never tested it myself, but it is very popular in Poland, and I never heard complaint about it (or maybe people are not so picky as me?)

Don´t know, I use Dension in my preFL 159 for a few months, and it works nice, also sound quality - for sure it isn´t clear as from CD, but i can say 90%.
Also there´s a new firmwares for Dension on their page, lot of bugfixes etc. Maybe it was bad 2 years ago or so (or its because of Gulietta ?), but now I think its better choice than Yatour.

Just read some topics on polish alfa romeo forum, and you will see, how piece of ****ty box Yatour is....quality is different box-to-box and lot of people complaining about not playing their MP3 from USB, freezing units, etc..

I see the replaced Dension I got was updated to 1.19 latest Firmware.
I realized MP3s from USB do not work - i tried to setup via configuration file volume, and it did not work. ANyway, I do not use USB.MP3 there - Dension is for Spotify and phone calls, both streamed via Bluetooth.

Do you need to reduce volume level on phone, or did you used any configuration files to tweak it? I also see now that phone call level is much higher than Spotify, and this can't be setup on Dension separately - there is one common setting for A2DP via configuration file. luckily phone has separate volume level for Spotify (Media) and Bluetooth phone call.

It is far from mature device IMHO, and if I was to buy again, I woudl try something different (probably by 3rd party 2DIN radio unit with BT/GPS etc + steering wheel buttons decoder for Giulietta, or at least would buy maybe similar device but from different manufacturer like Yatour).

I use +3dB config for Dension, and must say that B&M call volume is higher so need to lower volume when call, and + volume when listening on Dension.

But it was the same story with B&M USB, calls were always higher volume than music (or i just listen to music loud :D )

Agree that it isn´t perfect, but for me it´s doing its thing 100%. Yatour with BT cost about 60-70€ (from china) while Dension is about 120€ - maybe it´s worth to try it for that money ;)

in giulietta i need to use -6db for a2dp streaming from dension, then spotify at max phone media volume is not distored, but all is quiet and need to turn radio volume to 20 or more. for calls though i have distortins an need to lower call volume to mid scale on mobile phone.

usb/mp3 stopped working

as you see i do not have strong reason to be happy about dension, but maybe it is problem only in giuliettas?

I dont know...maybe, its different radio, newer version of B&M etc...

Im not saying Dension is best, just say for me its working like it should and do what i want :)

ALSO!! Spofity lowe volume is Spotify thing, its same story on computer, on mobile...it is noticeable quieter than soundcloud, or normal mp3´s.
Little trick is TURN OFF in spotify app setting "Normalize Volume" - much better, but still bit quiet.
