Got this hole, plug or sensor in the dash top vent.

Have no idea what it is for though...

Anyone seen one of these before?

Very mysterious!

it's deep too! tried to use my maglite, and light up the iside of the hole..cant see a thing in it
It's just a big black hole when you remove the centre vent, no wonder you couldn't see anything ;)

There actualy quite a lot of room down there. I managed to fit a VDO navigation monitor instead of the centre vent :D

What's the thing in the circled area? another hole? Methinks someone removed a SatNav/pda mount or a Radar detector. It sure doesn't look factory made to me
Thats the alarm Diode.. and is factory fitted..or is it??

I figured that hole was a movement sensor for the alarm, because the alarms have this feature. Rather annoying because i cant activate the alarm with my dogs still in the car.. And furthermore all the windows roll up automatically when i lock the car on the remote....Seems this is not normal either? I know the alarm is an original one..

Reason i am even asking about this, is because the guys from Novitec asked me what that hole was for. They have never seen it either

You got any pic of that monitor you installed Hoygaard? Sounds cool

Strange that.

Do you have an extra plip or is it just the normal red key. IMHO, the auto closing feature was not available on cars before the facelift, I'm even unsure the facelift cars got it. Also, it seems that only some of the higher specced 147 had this feature because it needed some window seals with built in pressure sensors

Also, the cabin monitoring system usually requires two sensors. On most cars they're fitted on top of the A pillars facing backwards, or on the B pillar, one facing forward the other one facing backwards. It's really strange that. It could be interesting to yank out that centre vent and see if any wires or sensors would show up. Perhaps following the wire could lead you to an aftermarket alarm ;)

I have an aftermarket alarm which I wired into the existing remote control circuit, meaning I dont need an extra plip, just the remote that's allready built into the (red) key.

I haven't got any pictures of the navigation thingy. I used to, but must have deleted them from my hard drive. I'll try take a photo later on, or sometime tomorrow. I'd rather do it when there not a lot a people around. One does come across a bit anal, taking pictures of ones car in the middle of the afternoon ;)

Oops, just realised it was dark when you shot those piccy's. No harm in taking pictures if you have a secluded parking space, or your own driveway. But I have to park in the middle of the street, and I happen to be a sorry **** that cares about what people I dont even know think of me

By the look of things, I think youre having an aftermarket alarm fitted to your car. What we need now is some of our British isle frinds come along and tell us where the factory alarm LED is situated. I happen to believe it's closer to the windshield than on your car.

Having had a look on the spare parts catalogue, there's only four options of centre vents available up to MY 2001. LHD and RHD, with or without alarm.

Can any of you Brits confirm this, as I happen to think alarms were more or less mandatory if you wanted a sensible quote on your insurance

no idea what the hole is on the centre vent but curiosity has just got the better of me, i've just gone out in the freezing cold to see whether my post-facelift 156 has auto-closing windows and the answer is......... no :(

Solved one mystery, but then i got another :D

I took out the top vent, and indeed that hole is just a bracket meant to hold something.. probably a PDA or Sat Nav...

But then where the hell is the motion sensor!!??? i just tested it by moving about in the cabin with the alarm activated. At first nothing happend, but as soon as i rocked the car it set the alarm off...

So bottom line is that the motion senser is probably a Quicksilver switch which detects movement of the car, and not that other type which detects movement in the cabin. I guess my dogs must have been jumping around in the car when they set it off.

The Windows do have a sensor that stops them from closing if they meet resistance. I tested it, and they do stop.

BTW the Alarm went nuts a few months ago when it was in for a service! The Guys from Notivtec had a few comments when i came in to pick it up :D :D I gathered they got pretty fed up with it after a while.... They couldnt locate the backup battery, and the sirene unit is located behind the dash somewhere. :cheese:

So they had to rolll it out in the street and let it tap the backup battery.

Supposedly the back up battery is good for about an hours worth of noise! :D
