That is the exchange price from Alfa.
Technically they would want your old one back, but it wouldn't matter what state it was in.
They give you a while to return it.

Most, if not all, of the Alfa exchange parts are new, my gearbox clearly was a brand new part.

Just contact your local dealer parts dept.

Do a check with your chassis number too to confirm it is the right one.

 

David would you know what car that ebay turbo fits I have two 150 Mjets (Stilo and GT) one has 80k and the other nearing 50k, if I believe most of the anti diesel rantings I may need a turbo at some point, it could be worth picking this up.

Just called Alfa and they want £676 including VAT which isn't too bad - they confirmed it's a re-conditioned turbo but I'm confused as to whether I should buy it as have heard in previous posts that they cant be reconditioned.

Dont really want to shell out over £600 for the problem to occur again !!!

 

Are the early JTD turbos VNT?
If not there shouldn't be a problem with it being 'recon'

 

Alfa 'recon' is fine.

As they are either new opr sourced via the original manufacturer, on an exchange basis.

Undoing the bolts would probably be the hardest thing, I had a look at mine and I couldn't see an oilfeed so in theory its no harder than changeing a part of the exhaust, probably need some heat for the bolts.

I can't comment from experience as I have not done it, it just doesn't look hard, bumper off for access.

 

David....AFAIK and have been able to find out after lots of research all 2.4 JTD's have a Garrett VNT25 variable vane turbo fitted.

David C are you 100% sure 71785259 doesn't isn't the correct part for a JTDm, the Mainstealer has quoted this part number to me as I'm sourcing a replacement for my blown turbo (£317+vat for refurb 717etc)

I converted mine to a later 2.4 turbo... my 136 bhp now has the turbo from a 175 mjet... all depends how handy you are with the welder etc but might give you a better chance to find a cheaper turbo. the GT2256V from the 140/150/163/175 2.4s is also a lot better quality than the TD2503V of the 136...
