Hi!
I'm new to Alfa engines, and previously worked a lot with Saab engines and are not used to how hard it seems to get parts for Alfa engines, so please bear with me 😄

So the issue I'm facing first is, cylinder liners.. I purchased the engine from a guy who said the engine was perfect (and it looked great on the outside), but, I've discovered that even though it might have been perfect when it was dismounted, condensation or whatever created so much water in the cylinders that now three liners are bad..

But where do you guys source new liners?
It seems impossible for the 3.0 24V and if I see someone who makes "custom" the set would land on the same amount as an engine from a scrapyard. Boring the liners to o.d. would require new pistons + balancing, also costly for sure...

I've been thinking that in worst case I could ask a manufacture to produce them in larger scale, I'm guessing I'm not the only one facing this problems?

Also, I've heard that 3.2 guys can use 3.0 liners, just shorten them a little... How about the 164 3.0 liners, do they work in the newer engines?

Can't answer your question, but generally the Busso is such a great motor that spare parts like these are not needed as they rarely give grief. Now that does not help you, but buying another engine might be your best bet. Unless someone else has a source of the parts you need or can answer your other questions.

As above and EB Spares are a thoroughly reputable company and that would be my choice. If you decide to try another supplier ensure the set is original and complete, not made up from 5 plus 1 other because one was used for another engine and then replaced with an odd one. I have seen that and it wasn’t a satisfactory answer. They have to match completely.

Also what I would recommend, since you have the engine apart, get it balanced and lighten the flywheel. Have in mind these are externally balanced crankshafts, you need the flywheel, crankshaft and the crankshaft balancer balanced at the same time. Best of luck with the build!
