my other half was driving to work yesterday and thinks she got pinged at about 45 or 46 (in a 40 area)by a mobile income gener...or sorry speed detector ;)
Apparently , as she quoted "it was the car's fault as when your in fifth the engine is hardling revving and it feels much slower"
Do you think I should get her to take it to court on that basis???!!

If I was her, I would have used the speedometer & Rev counter are the wrong way round when compared to most other cars. That's what I've told my wife to say if ever she gets stopped :D

Well if you did and you got the Sun to cover it I'm sure you'd get your money back :D

Is she aware the car has gears other than 5th? Hill-starts must be a right struggle  ;)

Getting done for 45 in a 40 is very unlucky though.

I think she should give it a go, especially as it was only slightly over the limit. Just word it along the lines of you were paying attention to other safety aspects around you, and with such a smooth running car hadn't realised your speed had crept up slightly. ;)

What is more dangerous someone doing 45mph paying attention to the road around them, or someone doing 40mph and giving all their attention to the speedo???

Exactly :)

I find myself checking my speed too much these days

They would probably do you for driving without due care and driving in the incorrect gear for the situation. Just to raise a bit more cash.

Send you for a retest..a bit more money.

Congestion charge for your wife being in the car on her own...mind you better than most busses...they drive around on their own too much.

Or after all this..plead ignorant and say you were driving.

If it was me I would just take the fine. Ive only been done once by a policeman bounding out from behind a hedge and I played the "I didnt know I was going that fast" and got done. I thought after if I just said that I knew I was a little over but wont do it again officer, I may of got off.

Well if the speedo reads 45 or 46 she should be ok. At that indicated speed she was prob doing nearer 40 anyway. Besides I was told it was speed limit + 10% + 2mph so 46 should be ok. At worst it's 3 points and a fixed penalty.

thats the problem with diesels.. makes you a lazy driver as it pulls from low in the rev range!! I mistakingly put it into third whilst stopped at the lights and it pulled away(just) without stalling!!

The very same thing happened to me and a friend Nige. We were in his Aston DB9 on the A3m just north of the Devils punch bowl doing 169mph, in 6th gear do you think we would have got away with it if zapped by the cameras? ME THINKS NOT! good luck with the courts.

While you're at it, convince her to state that she thought she was driving a Bentley. Soooo quiet inside, you can hardly tell how fast you're going :D
