Ok, I recall mentioning a while back about some water getting in the passenger footwell SOMETIMES and in tiny ammounts.. didnt bother me too much.

however after a full night of rain, I came back to the passenger footwell FLOODED. Complete pond!
As I drove off, I could here it 'sloshing' in the firewall (behind the dash) and i could see water POURING into the footwell as i turned right (centrifugal force to the left, to the footwell.)

I figure this is not the air con, nor is it a problem on the move, nothing appears to be coming in the door. It simply fills up from standing water overnight and has obviosuly overspilled to fill the footwell.

As Ive never taken a 156 apart where could this water be sitting and why isnt it draining off? And if its coming in, why is it coming in. The only thing i know is that the trim around the bottom of the window was falpping, which i tucked back in, apart from that i cant understand - its a LOT of water.. like the whole car drain off. I cant see anything obvious - tips?

I have water sloshing about in my car somewhere!

Does it have a sunroof - if so are the drains blocked?
In my old Mk1 Focus, when the cabin pollen filter is replaced (under the scuttle panel), if not fitted back correctly, then the footwell would rapidly become a paddling pool

no sunroof no.

Mine leaks too (although yours sounds a lot worse than mine), usually when it's raining, although there's no obvious rhyme or reason to it. Maybe it depends on how the car's sitting when parked. I suspect the water's coming in from up behind the dash, towards the driver's side. I tried clearing out all the drains and stuff on the scuttle but that didn't help. I usually chuck a couple of old towels under the mat to absorb the water. Probably wise to avoid using the best Egyptian cotton towels from the airing cupboard though!

yeah, im gonna go with towels but this was like 4-6 litres of water. Its comeing in, fillign up so far then if it continues to rain or i move the car it sloshes intot he footwell! it must be some sort of blockage, maybe a firewall bung come undone? very weird, not like its comign up from the road

From RogerRoger:

solution.

bonnet closed:
take off the passenger wiper arm and blade. prise off cover on arm to reveal 13mm nut, undo nut and remove wiper arm. (remember the cover might look solid, just push it off with your fingers, it's plastic, not solid and hides the nut)
remove the passenger half of the plastic sill that covers the bottom of windscreen to engine compartment.

4 screws.
3 require a star socket (99p shop) bonnet open.
1 screw has a plastic cover on it that you prise off with a screwdrive and then requires a phillipes screwdriver. bonnet closed.

what you will now see is a bulk head that traps the water, and is almost full of water if you have this problem. there is a drain point roughly in the middle, that empties into the engine compartment. put your hand in there (yes it's cold, wet and full of disgusting stuff) push your finger into the sludgey hole, and you will unblock it. water will spill out.

simples.....

::: water was filling the bulk head and couldn't escape into the engine compartment as per design. the next escape point for the water is the passenger footwell.

SIMPLE FIX

ok the above is a bit long winded, but i can't describe how to see the exit port into the engine, once you have done this you will know exactly where the port is. in future don't bother taking the wipers etc off, just unblock the port from within the engine.

sorry if i had a camera i could take a photo of it.

hope all the above helps

great cars
love the breaking

ride on

roger and out.....

Took no time at all, im so relieved! Literally unscrew the nearside plastics around the wipers, no need to remove the wipers, pull up the plastic and stick your hand in there, you'll feel one plug and left of it and down a bit is the hole that bungs up... push your fingers round and PLOSH! all the water comes out and the hole is clear. No more wet carpets!

I fully intend to try out this fix WHENEVER IT STOPS F*CKING WELL RAINING!!!

Update - oh look, it's stopped raining at long bloody last and now I can't find the effing car because of the effing pea-souper fog!!!

Next thing you know I won't be able to access the wiper panel because it'll be under three feet of snow.

Just get out there! I was just about to buy a goldfish for my footwell, instead went out in the pooring rain to fix it, literally 5 minute job!
