At the moment I am not driving an Alfa but would prefer not to say what I am driving. I have been looking for a GTV but would like to know if there are any signs to look for that might indicate a problem. Anyone got any tips?

Hi,

You don't say what you are going to spend but I can say from recent experience that if there is no history with the car then you need to have a goodly sum set aside to attend to some major engine works to ensure the integrity of the engine. I'm talking cam belt, tensioners and possibly cam variator replacement. I bought a very cheap '96 GTV as a hobby/fun car and have spent the same money again making sure I don't fall foul of an engine rebuild. It depends what you're after....I was prepared to take a risk and spend money if needed...and I have. These cars do have good bodies as they were galvanised at birth so if corrosion is evident walk away. It's always the same, you get what you pay for. Having said that if you are like most Alfa owners your heart will always rule your mind. Just a quick one...........if it has the master key brilliant. If it only has the red key all is not lost because you can probably get it cloned, I did.
