didnt know you could buy registration plates over there :wow:

Could come up with ridiculous number plates to search for myself

could you search if " HAIRY BUM " is available ?
( ....a bum who lives out on the streets and hasnt shaved his beard for a long time .... what did you think ? )

i don't sleep on the streets and i shave every day

but you can buy a plate from the official government site here,

DVLA Personalised Registrations - Search and buy personalised registrations direct from DVLA. From 250 fully inclusive.

the plate has to be along the lines of a regular plate and you can't make the car appear newer that it is. so if your car was A234 SUD you couldn't have H125 TDD as it would be a newer year reg letter. the "A" was for August 1983 to July 1984 cars and the "H" for August 1990 to July 1991

plenty of private companies willing to take your hard earned ;)

as the weather is slightly warming  and i had a few mins spare this morning i decided to pull the cover off the sud to see what had happened over the last few months. despite it sitting outside my back door i haven't actually seen the car since probably early november so i was a bit worried about what i would find :(

would it be damp all over :(
covered in mould inside :tut:
full of mice

thankfully none of the above despite a few worrying cats claw marks up one side of the cover, i hoped that didn't mean it was trying to get at a family of mice feasting on sud seats

the inside is cold, but not damp

nothing has been inside it as far as i can tell, well if they have they haven't chewed anything

the only thing was a few dead flies that were on the front of the radiator have gone mouldy  they should soon dry up and fall off once the car is running again ;)

hopefully next weekend will see the engine & 'box back in

although i am still tempted by the 1.7 16V conversion being offered elsewhere on here i really want to see what difference the new 1.2ti 'box makes first, haven't ruled out a winter upgrade for the year end though :D

What was this?!?!?!?!!:wow: Think positive people!! if you can restore this then you can do anything:)
what the TR4? that sold for ÂŁ560  guess the paperwork must be worth a few quid ;)

wouldn't have minded the little fiat 500 though, sold for ÂŁ440 but came with a few new panels.
they aren't that big a car so how hard could it have been

got a few jobs done on my sud today in readiness for (hopefully) the engine going back in next weekend.
had a good look over the hand-brake system as it was quite stiif last year, hope the mods will improve it.
took the radiator out and got all the mouldy flies from it  then a quick coat of paint.
did the nice simple mod to the bonnet stay that i spotted on a sud at MITCAR last year, think it was on waynes' car  a hole with an "r" clip in it stops the bonnet stay being knocked from its mounting and dropping the bonnet on your head
fitted the calipers to the new gearbox
new gaskets on the cam covers, engine now ready to go in once it's off the engine stand and has the flywheel refitted with the new clutch

weather might just turn mild this week so fingers crossed that i can get saturday afternoon and sunday on it, hope it will be all up and running again by then

Are you going to try the solid tailshaft mod to improve the gearchange?

i do remember you mentioning that mate, but had forgotten since  do you just do away with the 2 mounting rubbers and bolt it direct somehow

might not get it all back in this coming weekend after all now :( like a **** i have let it sit there all winter knowing i needed to get hold of a new speedo cable, only just remembered today about that  tried all the usual places but no-one does them anymore. rang speedy cables but the guy was out until tomorrow morning, will ring again then
hoping they know the part i need but more realistically they will need the old one as a pattern so i took it off tonight and it's ready to post off if needed.

i know i could fit the engine & 'box back in and do the cable after, but it's a pain to get at the circlip with the 'box in, i planned to attach it to the gearbox before raising it all up then feed it through as it is put into position. should make it easier in the long run, and another week or 2 won't hurt. not like i'm going out anywhere in it

speedo cable? might take you up on that dave if speedy cables can't help

the one i have has rounded off edges on the square section where it goes into the gearbox, don't want to ruin the nice new nylon drive :tut:

will try them tomorrow and see what they come up with ;)
