Is It Safe To Charge Phone Without Engine Running

Hi,

Just wondering how people feel about charging a smart phone via 12v socket whilst ignition is on (otherwise socket is not on) and daytime running lights switched off. Do you think this will run the car battery down too much? Seen conflicting advice on line.

I don't think it is a good idea as much of the cars eletrical system is active.

Can you not charge your phone from the USB port in the glove compartment? Mine is live all of the time.

Failing that you will need to rewire the 12v socket so that it stays live.

Im going to check that out now. So, would you be happy to charge a smart phone using this usb port ? Then I could save the 12v charger for when I am driving.

Assume there is a low battery warning in modern cars. My 2006 pug 307 had one.

That was mostly a time based system though, it didn't check the state of charge of the battery.

The Giulietta will not stop you if you want to behave like an arse

but the start/stop system will not work very well if you run down the battery too much.
