Hi guys

I managed to snap the ignition key in the barrel.

Does anyone know how to remove the ignition barrel - can't budge it at the moment.

Or does anone know how I can get the key out?

Thanks

Sometimes you can get them out with very thin long nose pliers/circlip pliers, it might be worth ginding an old pair down to very thin, or even a sturdy pair of tweezers (dont tell the missus!!) You could also try a powerful magnet if its close enough or a very little bit of araldite rapid on the other half push together tape up and leave for a could of hours, but be careful! good luck!

If you can't get the key out there is another trick that is general to ignition locks.

There is a sprung pin that holds the barrel into the steering column.
It cannot be pushed in if the ignition is in the off position but if enough of the key is in to turn the lock the sprung pin will push in, the barrel will pop out and things'll get a whole lot easier.

If the broken bit won't come out, Bodger's is the best way. It should all come apart and the piece of key can be pushed out from the bottom of the barrel. Be aware that the air bag is still active if you start bashing around on the steering column

You'll have to find the pin tho!! The manual says remove the lower sterring column shroud, turn the Key to Mar, work on the fastening clamp with a punch through the special slot then remove the switch. It looks like you push a punch thro the slot to release the lock. No need to bash anthing!

If we could post pics I'd post a pic but I cant! not sure why?

Guys many thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately the key won't engage so I can't turn the ignition to the MAR position to get the barrel out.

Waiting for a locksmith to come with the tools and see what he can do. Nightmare!!

Thanks
