:lol: I know S/S may make you feel like this is the only solution but is a little drastic.

BTW don't you love the way the engine dies on you when trying to parallel park, (no matter how quickly you select 'R'), especially when vehicles are waiting behind you?

As to the original question, no, you can't disable Start Stop, you have to try and remember to press the S/S off button before each journey and yes I know that on the occasion you forget will be the time it drops you in it!

 

Why would you want to turn it off? It saves you fuel at traffic lights! And if you really wanted to turn it off, theres a button where you can press so it turns off. However, it does come back on again lol. But just keep your foot on the clutch at the traffic light..

 

S/S is THE most useless invention. Car makers have "invented" it only because of the enviromentalists. Restarting consumes fuel and start unit will be replaced before it´s natural life span; you get tens of starts when driving thru city, compared to ONE which you get before, when driving from A to B.

 

Apparently noone has reported a problem with the starter motor yet.. and when my MiTo does activate S/S at a traffic light, my mileage range increases.. As does my average mpg.. by about 0.1 lol.

Let´s Hope best, but I´m pretty cynic since manufactures like to pass the bill to consumer even in under warranty. It´s just vapour ware to please enviromentally minded customers. Save in consumption is fractures, compared to problems and hassle with those "green" technologies. Why just (try) to make car 200-300kg lighter, would save a lot more than this useless and prblematic ****

 

The most annoying feature is when the battery level is too low and you get the start stop is unavailable message when you are reversing. The message replaces the reversing distance marks which, unlike start stop, are really useful. I hate it.

You can disable Stop/Start using MES or similar through the body computer "CAN Setup Procedure" using the "Adjustments Tab."

Well the feature to do so is there, whether it works or not is another thing.

 

Did anyone give this a go? Does it actually work? I'm looking at doing this on mine.

 

Must be lucky as I turned it off by the button and it’s stayed off ever since just displaying the orange s/s light on the dashboard.

I remember on both my Abarth and 500 it stayed disabled until you pressed the switch back on again. However, on the MiTo it re-enables itself every time you switch the ignition on.

 

Models after my 2013. are once you turn it off by button, stays turned off
