As far as I know your outlet manifould will just bolt on to the 147 unit

 

It will just bolt straight in, if the 147 is from a newer car, the exhaust might differ, but the 156 one will bolt straight in.

 

The 156 engine will be a CF2 (Aus didn't get CF3 TS) and the 147 will be CF3, but the engine will still swap.

 

You might need to change the exhaust cam pulley (and maybe the inlet). Not sure how different the CF2/CF3 ones are...

Fair enough.. Will it be a good idea to swap it myself since ive got all the tools? I was quoted a lot of money just for the engine swap..

 

Physically lifting the engine is the only thing stopping me from doing an engine swop in a car. If you are capapble of carrying out the work you might as well do it

 

Here most do it the other way take an engine out of an old 156 a put it in a 147.The fact is its becoming a cottage industry here going by ebay sales!

 

Unfortunately the CF2 does differ a lot to the CF3.

Cam sensor and exhaust cam pulley,

Down pipe,

Coil packs and engine harness,

crank sensor.

Hi I have just bought my first alfa its the 147 2.0L twin spark 2001 petrol. Can somebody confirm the oil this uses as I have been told 3 diffrent types from 3 diffrent places I have been to 10w60, 10w40 and 5w40 which should I use?

sorry to bring this back up but did the engine swap from 147 into a 156 work out well? I am in an identical situation

 

As above, the only real issue is the cam pulley if the 156 engine is a CF2.
Also if the 156 is CF2 spec (pre Sept 2000 in Europe), make a note somewhere that it now has a CF3 engine as the head gaskets are different, should it need one later on.

 

Sorry i am new to this CF2, CF3 stuff, The donor 147 is a 2002 and the recipient 156 is a 2001. Both 2L TS

 

If your 156 has three Cats (two in front of the engine straight after the manifold and one under the car) then it is a CF3 spec and has exactly the same engine as the 147.

If however your 156 only has a single Cat (under the car) and a basic cable-operated throttle, then it is a CF2 spec.
The changeover was in September 2000 (build dates, not registration dates).
