Hi all i have a 2004 GT JTD 1.9.

I am looking to have it remapped and have recieved a quote from a company called "Angel Tuning", they claim they will remap my 150bhp engine to 190bhp.

This sounds a bit excessive to me and i wander what the general views are on this etc. Im also considering decatting the car but will all of this blow up my turbo?

Opinions welcome please people!

mine is decatted (if that's a word :p) and mapped to 180.4bhp and 307ftlbs and its much more than you need 99% of the time but is always good fun, I'd say the torque is at or near its limit as you can feel the "flex" at max torque where the car feels like that's it lot, its kinda hard to explain..... you have to get to know how to use the power and use the revs more to unload the strain but I love the kick in the back when you floor it, I have driven several 4pot petrol Alfa's now but would not buy one over a remapped diesel ever :)
p.s get it mapped on a RR and make sure its done the way it should be :)

I went the race chip tuning box way as it is adjustable but its big plus for me is it makes the car pull better from 1200 rpm upwards more like a petrol car in fact My ph3 spider is very tractable and this box has done the same for the GT. Also the power progressive which I hope will keep the clutch and driveshafts in one piece?

One thing to consider is that the differential is a bit of a weak point after a lusty remap (the actual gearbox in a 1.9JTD is the same as in the GTA I believe, and can take the strain).

Definitely worth considering a Q2 (or other) limited slip diff.

My GT now has 192bhp and 330ftlbs courtesy of Red Dot Racing and a new diff is going in as soon as I can afford it. Until then I'm taking it easy coming out of RAB's!

If is allready slipping and u thinking doing a remap, get a fast road clutch kit, think they are about ÂŁ200max n if u can afford it at sometime get a Q2 or a qualify different. They are a few alias garages out there where u can do the whole lot for a reasonable price. But if u get all the 3 things ( clutch,Q2 n remap) u may don't get much change from ÂŁ1000, but the end result is Worthed on my opinion

if its shuddering under load now, the remap will kill it in days

shuddering is usually driveshafts, inner tripods etc.

if the clutch starts slipping they it could be the clutch, dual mass flywheel or both = ÂŁ800

my car has an alfatune 175 remap on it, which certianly makes it very lively, but the drivetrain has suffered a lot and cost a lot to keep on top of

well if theres shuddering in the drive train now, then the remap will see it off in no time

i bought mine with 63k on the clock, remapped it at 67k and the driveshafts lasted 1k before i was on a low loader. Clutch and DMF changed at 95k due to slipping dangerously.

now with 116k and shuddering again

is that it!!
i got near 200k on my jtd, and has been remapped for near 2 yrs n clutch still ok, and as far i am aware the car hasnt had a clutch changed yet n i am the 2nd onwer, but i can feel the clutch is given up slowly lol.
in the end of the day the clutch n all the other bits will last as long u are carefull n know how to use all that extra power n troque.
