Not long had my gt, but I've come to check the coolant level and it was way down at the bottom of the tank! I've added 1 litre and the level hasn't risen. The engine runs fine with no overheating and gets up to temperature fine as well.

In my garage I have a few spots on the floor at the right front, but it's not much and certainly not enough to Warrant all the coolant I seem to have lost.

Any ideas?

Thanks David.

I added the only coolant I could find which was blue. Not sure what it had in before but after doing a bit of research it may have been red? Anyway Coolant level back down to the bottom of the expansion tank after 1 week of driving. No overheating, no running problems, oil clean so hopefully no HGF.

Yesterday I topped it up again and then had it running in my garage for around 15minutes, constantly checking for leaks, both when it was topped up and also when it was running. Got nothing but I lost coolant again! about 1cm below minimum . Also checked thermostat for leaks and again nothing obvious.

Would the radiator be obvious if it was at fault, i.e water dripping from it? or could it still be coming from there and evaporating away?

edited to say that the drops in my garage were oil. So that's another job!

Mixing blue & red coolant types will be getting gloopy, generally not a great thing.

A fine mist of a leak from the rad could be evaporating quickly, but I'd have thought that would be noticeable in cold weather as it would be condensing quicker.

Right, I took the alfa in this morning to simply alfas in Stourbridge. Had a great week in the sun last week so was due some punishment for enjoying myself so much :p

My coolant leak is actually coming from the pipes leading to the heater matrix which are unfortunately for me at the back of the engine, so a minimum 4 hour job to change ÂŁ28 pipes :wow: It looks as though the previous owner stuck in some radweld to patch it up, so that's not good either.

Next up was an oil leak. This turns out to be seals in the engine block not put in correctly when the engine was rebuilt last year due to camel failure. So a big welcome back to alfa ownership for me :( . They're going to change the spark plugs whilst their replacing the seals to bring the bill up to ÂŁ600 plus vat:cry:

big  to simply alfa who have lent me a 147 until it's done which should be next week hopefully.

p.s are the plastics in the 147gta as poor as the standard 147? Also 49.3mpg average on this one being a jtd, so should claw back the majority on fuel over the next week lol
