Thrust bearing is worn. Had the same on mine for about 6 months before it decided to smash into the clutch plate resulting in a new clutch assembly. Over time the clutch should also start to feel a bit 'heavier' before it completely gives way. So start saving for a clutch replacement. I think you can replace the thrust bearing itself but after all that effort you might as well change the clutch plate whilst you're there!
Thanks guys, you have confirmed my thoughts. The noise has only been there for a couple of weeks, hopefully it will hold up for my trip as no time to get it changed before I leave on Monday, if it goes it will have to be recovered.
Should be fine if its only been happening for the last few weeks. Lets hope so anyway!
