I wouldn't do either of these mods personally. If you want better induction I would go for a performance filter instead. Try autodelta, theirs is well rated.

If it rains or you go through a deep puddle you will probably end up sucking water up into your engine. If you use your car as a daily drive and not a wekend play thing you may want to think twice about what you want to do.

 

the TS air filter is only marginally smaller than the V6 one, so I can't imagine there's a lot of gain to be had power wise, though sound wise could be another story

 

Just stick with the resonator mod and your new filter.

 

I have a Mini Cooper and the air intake pipe starts at the grill and goes to a resonator box then the air filter. I assume then, if you want the flow of air from the grill, you should add another resonator box before the filter to capture any grit/water?

 

As mentioned above modifiying the end of the intake pipe in such a way could result in water being sucked into the engine.

As for replacing the resonator box with a straight piece of pipe, this would certainly make the air intake noisier, and you may or may not see a subtle increase in performance.

 

Much induction noise change with the autodelta filter?

 

To be honest, cant really hear that much of a difference. But under hard acceleration it does growl a little more then standard.

What length pipe and diameter should i buy to replace the resonator?

 

N-am, just did mine. Used 76mm internal diameter piping and silicone

I did this with my old GTV and want to do the same again to my current one, I was trying to remember the pipe size as I bought that piece that fitted exactly from ebay.

 

I think the size is 70mm

 

I think there are some variations, but on a ph1 TS the throttle body is 76mm, the plastic pipe with the resonator is 70mm at each end and the maf is 70mm

ETA- maf is 70mm! d`oh

 

on the CF3 engine, the resonator is 70mm on both ends.

 

Ended up fitting it with a 65mm pipe, will post pics and how to guide once it is painted

 

Urm, Opened up the bonnet, had some star shaped screw I couldnt undo and the filter has loads of stuff connected to it. Havent fitted the filter

Not too greasey me as you can tell, wasnt expecting it to be hidden though, was also a bit put off be removing what one assumes is the maf
