Busso V6 3.0 P0340 cam position sensor error

Hi all - my 3.0 Sportronic has just started throwing P0340 cam position sensor errors. The car is driving normally although the EML is coming on.

According to MES, this error indicates no signal from the sensor.

So - does this mean the sensor has failed and needs replacing? Or is there another possible cause?

I have to replace the cam belt shortly so getting access to replace the cam sensor would be pretty easy.

The cam sensors do sometimes go on the blink, but a lot of the time the electrical connector at the end of the lead perishes & breaks apart. Either way, time for a new sensor, fortunately they are pretty simple to do.
