I have recently purchased a lovely Brera 2.2JTS from another member on the forum. It is five and a half years old and has 37,000 miles.
Due to the distance, the previous owner met me half way to view the car and sods law the engine warning light came on on his way down. Obviously I wasn't going to purchase until this was sorted, and the owner had the timing chain replaced - initially by his own mechanic and then by WAD in Wolverhampton. I have receipts to prove the work was done but I trust him in his willingness to have the car sorted.
This was fixed on the Monday and all was well, I collected the car on the Saturday of that week and again the car was fine until I stopped for fuel on my way home, and the light came back on again.
I booked an appointment with Autolusso in Bournemouth to get the fault code details - on my way there the light went off! It did come back on when I arrived, and they diagnosed the problem as the exhaust camshaft (explained as a timing issue).
I am guessing it was re-set as the light was off when I left them and has stayed off for a week, but came on again last night.
The PO have been on touch with WAD who have insisted their work and the timing is fine
Whilst there is part of me that thinks the car is fine (it doesn't drive or sound any different although bear in mind it is new to me so I don't have much comparison), clearly I want to avoid any issues and make sure the car is fixed if there is a problem.
Has anyone else suffered anything like this previously? I would rather not spend the money on what could be a pointless excercize removing & re-fitting the chain if its a dodgy sensor or something like that, as its becoming an intermittent problem.
