I don't think its supposed to lift its self.

 

i asked the same question a while back, with mixed answers, the result i think was it doesn't but there was an ad/review that mentioned it did...

 

I'm sure you could engineer something to do it out of springs and high pressure gas cyders!

 

No it is simply supposed to pop - As Stu says higher pressure dampers can be easily purchased that should do the trick if needed.

 

i had a look into this when i first go mine and was referred to a strut company. its not expensive to mod by the look.

can't remember the company but will do a thread search.

thats doesn;t look to bad at all, do you have to request for them to be a bit more powerfull?

 

I was driving a (horrible) passat, and the bootlid opened up fully as soon as I opened it from inside the car. I couldn't get out fast enough to lower it again before about 20l of rain soaked everything inside. My advice: don't do it.

 

Also the open mechanism is quite complex and the gas struts arent at an Ideal angel. So how much force dose the strut need to provide to open the boot?

I'm thinking quite alot.

yeah the boot lid does seem pretty heavy, if you release it and then try and lift it, would a strut do that?

 

its more the image grabbing the open boot and swinging on it trying to force it closed that is a amuseing me.

Or opening it from the back and it hitting you on the chin!

 

perhaps the current arrangement is more dignified then.

alternatively you could use the catapult like force to fire missiles at passing german cars or midgets (no offence to any midgets out there I'm only 5'5 myself)

 

just read that back to my wife and she pointed out that a) it was unfair to midgets and b) i didn't mean to say firing at midgets but using them as missiles.

Due to there not being a 'handle' of sorts, you therefore you have to grab the boot under the bottom lip to lift it, I can't help but think the paint will wear thin pretty damn quick.....like someone else said its a heavy old bootlid.

 

No chance - Unless you have sandpaper hands!:lol:
