Is that the alloy top?

Can I ask how you did it?

Mine looks a tad worse than your before pic and could do with a make-over :)

Halfords

I bought a cheap version of a dremel from Halfords for ÂŁ15 Halfords | Rotacraft Variable Speed Mini Rotary Tool Kit
Hammerite silver smooth spray is an excellent match. You don't have to have high temp paint for the valve covers.
Thanks, bought both the above today, not used the dremel yet but it does look good value, painted the top engine mount bracket, fitted some more ss bolts & the red silicon intake tube.

Finished, for now anyway.

I got bored one evening!

Thought I'd share my alloy top partial refurb..

What a state!

Cleaned up with halfords spray degreaser.. Need to buy better stuff that SUCKS big time.

Cleaned up with wire brush and halfords dremmel'a'like Should have done more but was getting complaints about the noise :(

Undercoat with Hammerite 'Special Metals' Primer

Silver Coat with Hammerite brush on smooth silver. It was what I had lying around, I *should* have gone and got some spray stuff. Cover looks a bit less even in real life.

Stuck to the original colouring, Hammerite smooth red on the wording, I went over in a couple of places that will need touching up. Does not look half bad for an evening's work. Definately better than before!

But that now makes the other part look bad. Will have to take that off anyway to do the gasket so it will have to wait until then.

No offence but in a thread with the stunning V6 engine i really dont want to be seeing the TS engine!!!!! :)

The beauty of the V6 in looks, and sound and performace is our pay off for rubbish mpg!!

The top cover I did yes. If it's an alloy top, The other part of the cover (see my final pic) is much more of a nightmare as you have to remove the coilpacks and there is a gasket between it and the rest of the engine (rocker cover gasket). I have to replace my gasket anyway as it's leaking so I'll do it all at the same time.

Thanks for the defense of my post guys.. I thought this was a refurb thread :) Anyway doing this kind of thing is nice, easy and great for an evening, and I *swear* the car behaves better once it's been done :)

For those of you that can appreciate the beauty of a Twinspark engine..

Finally finished the alloy top, replaced the rocker cover gasket and smartened up the rest of the top at the same time.

Just hammerite paint-on, wish I'd done the spray stuff but I thought I'd better do the same as the other part of the top. Also probabily a bad idea not to clean my hands before replacing it. Had greasy marks on it :(

Wonder if there's anything I can do about the back area, might tart up the air intake. And just LOOK at that aircon motor!

Edit: What DOES this forum do to piccies? That was sharp as anything before I uploaded it.. honest!

Hey, I don't mind the look of the TS. For an engine with a cover it looks better than most 4cyl. That being said it's pretty hard to beat the looks of the V6! I have been putting off a refurb of mine for a while, actually it's really starting to look like hell now so I better get onto it.
