Yesterday I came out of a friend's house having been there all day to find all 4 windows of my car open. This is the second time this has happened since I've had the car but fortunately on both occasions there must have been lots of honest people around as the contents of the car were intact. Lucky also it hadn't rained. :D

Having read previous threads I think I know what happened. I had the keyfob in my pocket and think at some point the unlock button got pressed for >1 second whilst in my pocket. The car was within range so the windows dropped.

This seems a stupid design fault to me. Does anyone know whether this key fob action can be disabled by a dealer?

Thanks
Steve

Mine has been doing this-luckily it is garaged at night otherwise I'd be in trouble! The dealer has 'recalibrated' the windows!!!!! The car is due to have a new alarm system because it goes off when a heavy vehicle passes and resonates the volumetric alarm inside. I wonder if the two faults are linked? I'll keep u posted!

I came out to my 147 today and found it unlocked and the windows open ! I live in the sticks so no tea leaves involved but I noticed the local cat had left some muddy prints across the seats - nosy buggers ! Couldn't understand what was going on until I found this thread. Went out and checked the unlock for more than 1 second trick and down came the windows ! What sort of a retard designed that particularly stupid function in. Wouldn't be so bad if you could raise the windows by pressing the lock for more than a second but oh no that doesn't work ! You have to stick key in ignition and raise them with the door buttons. Doesn't even mention this in the manual

Also if the button on the fob is pressed for long enough to make the windows go down it will already have unlocked the doors! It's not quite the open invitation provided by the windows but I know a lot of places where it would not be a good idea.
Best approach is to try to work out how to prevent pressing the button at all, short of putting the fob in a box I haven't a clue how.

Mine closes all windows (and the sunroof) by holding the lock button. Also, opening and closing can be done in stages (ie not fully open or closed at once). On hot days I often lower the windows a few inches for air circulation then hit the lock button briefly to lock the car.

I don't understand why people would want this feature disabled. We recently had a strong downpour at work that came without warning. We all had our car windows down due to the high temperature. While everyone else got soaked going out to close their windows, I stood under cover (didn't have to leave the building) while raising my windows.

Well Im assuming that this issue has been nailed down to the remote and sitting on the button. But just to throw one thing into the mix...

We just bought our Brera and when we tested it the drivers window was randomly opening. We asked for it to be fixed under warranty before we got the car and had the car 2 weeks when we realised they hadnt had it fixed.

One night it was open all night when it snowed which was the final straw (this was completely at random as I used to go out and double check it once we realised there was a problem). The missus got it booked into AR, they re-set the windows, called us up to say it was fixed. Then 20 minutes later rang back and said your window is wide open we havent fixed it. They went on to diagnose a faulty window control module ÂŁ250 includig fitting. Problem sorted.

Thankfully the dealers we bought the car off picked up the tab as the warranty had then expired which is top customer service from Acklam Car Centre.

Anyway, just in case you find its not you sitting on the button, bear this in mind.

@ gsmandl, Rossco and techbod: While I'm happy for you guys that you can close as well as open the windows using the remote I can confirm that my experience with my late '09 build 159 is the same as that reported by stevel58 and Stevie28 - you just can not remotely close the windows using the key fob, though you can open.

I find it ridiculous for AR to have one and not the other. :tut:

@ PhilipS: I have not tried your suggestion, but having to extract the emergency key and inserting it in the door in order to actuate closing the windows using the fob's lock button seems counter to the point of having remote access in the first place, and is something I am not inclined to do.

Oh well, in the order of stupid things, at least its something I can manage and account for, and won't bother me on most days...

Cheers all!b :)

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread.....
Post delivered a parcel yesterday and mentioned I'd left all my windows open (2008 Q4 Sportwagon).... Well, I knew they were closed when I put it on the drive and, having read this thread wondered if holding the unlock button down for 2 seconds would drop the glass. Nope. After 5 minutes (and lots of bleeping from the alarm) I managed to repeat it! Holding down lock and unlock at the same time triggered windows opening. But not closing. Going to have to keep an eye on that.
