The pictures of your cars belly are are tempting me to get out some old screwdrivers and chisels and starting on the underneath of mine. It looks amazing.

Are you going to put the stone chip on in the cars colour or just black or grey etc. I like the idea of having mine in white, not very practical I know  but with all the suspension repainted etc it would look brill.

Thanks for the encouragement chaps, much appreciated. I am planning to stoneguard the whole underside and then body colour on top, should look good in pale yellow!! then unsure whether to add waxoyl or equivelent on top of that or not. All box sections will be waxoyled obviously, I put a lot of faith in waxoyl, the only trouble with doing the whole underside is that road grit tends to stick to it.... (does anyone know a product that this doesn't happen too?)

Been doing some more on the old girl today, rear panel given a skim or two of u-pol where it needed it. It took quite some time to get it right with the sander as the rear valance is a very complex shape with multiple curves in all directions. A coat of etch primer was then applied and then a coat of zinc phosphate and then seam sealer applied to all the rear panel seams. It needs the sealer neatening up and another coat of primer then its done. Next job is the boot area....

The next area for repair was the boot floor, this didn't look too bad at first inspection, but once I started removing all the old sealant etc. I found two areas needing repair, here are photos of the repair to the R/H rear inner wheelarch area, I had to repair the underside in the same area so I expected to find this to be honest.....

got the photos a little mixed up here, here are some more, the combined photos show both areas that needed repairing, both areas had corroded due to the foam that was added at the factory, the repair over the L/H side rear suspension area was perfect from underneath and had corroded on one side of the box section so I had to cut the top away to gain access and weld back into place afterwards.....

Of course finding these 2 areas needing repair meant that some of my work underneath was undone and I had to re paint and re-seam seal the areas from the underside again (bloody cars!!)
I have spent 3 weeks in the boot area, many many hours but it is starting to look good, my fingers are so sore from preping all these awkward areas!!!
Here are some latest photos taken today, the next jobs are too seem seal everywhere and replace all the sound deadening that I removed initially

OMG how good is that:thumbs:
Still trying to get that underseal and stonechip off mine - did they use more in 1982?? mine seems at least 4mm thick:cry:, even got a air scraper from USA but still damm hard work!!! hopefully easier on floor as wheel arch a real B*****d
got it on concrete blocks (no ramp) so now a little bit easier to get to:lol:
Sometimes wonder why take it off to start with but looking at yours its the way to do it:thumbs:
Keep up the good work and if you feel like a scrape PM me

I'm always getting into 'scrapes' :cheese:
Anymore scrape jokes please forward on ..... :cheese:

yes its a nightmare job, in the end I just used a screwdriver, the rear wheelarches were the hardest areas to remove it, some days I managed to remove a fair bit, some days it was very hard going. I am glad I did it though as it did uncover some corrosion that would have been missed otherwise. The area that I have just repaired on the L/H side of the boot floor is a major structural area, it is where the panhard rod fastens to the body, from the underside there was not a sign of corosion anywhere, I found a small hole on the boot floor, after it was cut back to good metal and that crazy foam removed I could see major corrosion insde the box section, access was not possible without cutting out a section to get to the area. Water must have got between the 2 layers of metal (the box section side and the reinforcing plate) and corroded away over the years. As it is all hidden no mot tester would find it until it was at a very advanced stage of corrosion.
It is fair to expect that there are other suds driving around with this hidden corrosion, it is possible to get some waxoyl to the area, from underneath in the centre of the box section. If seam sealer had been applied at the factory then this couldn't have happened, but that's 1970's alfa build quality for you I guess, the top of the boot floor where the boot hinges are had no paint on it at all on one side!! It must have been missed by the sprayer at the factory!!!

Hi all,
Boot area is now all finished, I have done the prep up to where the paint shop can carry on. I have also replaced all the original style soundproofing and also added some to the rear inner wings, mostly for protection to be honest when loading the deck chairs in at the car shows etc.!!!! :)
Next the bbot lid.....
