Hello everyone,

I'm quite new Alfa GT owner (I've bought it one month ago).
The car is very cool and so , but build-in Connect-Nav headunit is a little old-school. Navigation is useless for me, telephone needs an extra sim card - Bluetooth connection to existing phone will be a lot better.

I want to replace this one with simple Pioneer 2-DIN model: MVH-AV270BT.
Obviously I must use CA-R-PI.017, making steering wheel controls usable.
I've already bought surrounding 'dash kit'.

For me there is three important things:
  • all speakers works
  • steering wheel controls works (Is there possibility to use all 8 buttons, ie. answer call?)
  • use of the build-in microphone (Do you have original Connect-Nav pinout scheme? I can make jack microphone connector for Pioneer if I know which pins is connected to build-one.)

If anyone can help me with this issue I'll be grateful :byebye:

Now I can order CA-R-PI.017 (if I find some), then headunit :biglaugh:
Is there any other issues that I should be worry about?
Nope, using the PI.017 installation is pretty straightforward (assuming you don't have Bose), as it also supplies the missing switched +12
Don't use the metal cage of the connect, use the cage that's usually supplied with your new radio, as the one for the connect is specific (sell it with your old connect :biglaugh:)

If you have Bose, you will need to add the switch-on signal for the Bose amp,(single wire in the yellow mini-iso connector needs to be connected to accessory-out pin of the radio) and depending on what you want, you might want to use the line-out of the radio in stead of the speaker outputs (assuming you have minimum 4 Volt line-outputs), or perhaps need to attenuate speaker outputs in order to have sufficient volume control....

edit: looking at the specs of the radio, it has 2 Volt line outputs, so these would not provide sufficient drive for the Bose amp. This means you need to use the speaker outputs.... Using these as is, you might find that the range of volume control is not sufficient, i.e. turning up the volume knob slightly will already give high output levels. However, you can always first try to see if it's a problem for you. If so, you might have to add an attenuator in the speaker outputs....

On the original connect, there is an input on the HU that indicates to the connect that the system is used with Bose, causing the speaker outputs to change to high-level line-outs (~5 Volts). This allows alfa to use the HUs with both Bose and non-Bose, without needing to change the HU connections..

After 3 weeks delivery I've got my CA-R-PI.017 !
First from France to Spain, where lives my cousin, next from Spain to Poland.
The only shop where I can find CA-R-PI.017 doesn't send items to PL.
So...

First of all - big thank to you jwq - all your advices were very important and precious!

I've connected everything like you said and it's working like a champ
6 buttons from steering wheel is working.
All speakers play sound.
BOSE amp is working (yes, it's a little loud, but for me it's quite alright - my new headunit has 0-40 volume level, on 10 music is playing loud, on 20 very loud, on 1 it's almost silent, so there is no problem with Bose amp for me).
Bluetooth is working. The only thing is that I finally have used microphone from my headset instead of buid-in-car. All pins that you gave me is good (colors of cables in D connector and that connected to the microphone are the same), but I suppose that original microphone is too strong/weak/different/sth for my new headset. Or it's not working at all. Never mind. I've mount new one near speedometer. It looks not so bad.
Another thing is that I must use antenna connection converter (see below).

Nevertheless everything is very nice now, I'm happy that this is over :biglaugh:

One more thing. I've found n the Internet (see image below), that I must modify my CA-R-PI.017, changing cables layout in C connector socket.
I've tested connection without this modification and all buttons works fine. So - it's not necessary for me.

I'm glad to hear, that this is nice not only for me :)

I can take off only the external part of the bezel (you can see it on picture 4 of 7) and I was thinking about some repaint, but finally decide to stay with the black (after my non-pro repaint new color can be scratched or sth).
I didn't say before - I've chosen this model, except many other things, because it has red backlighted buttons - like other in GT, so it compose great.

I see...

Will keep a look out for a Pioneer unit like that at the right price... Had a lurking desire to fit a double DIN unit for a while, never really gave it much thought but it looks relatively easy to get it working with the steering wheel buttons and Bose system providing you follow all the knowledge here!

Now if only Pioneer did something similar but based on an Android OS and Google Maps native support....

Pioneer already has some models that support Android Auto

I'm currently installing an Appradio from Pioneer. It's a bit cheaper and with Appradio Unchained, you can have full Android on your 2din screen. But I was wondering if I could use the GPS pin from the ConnectNav. Since it's exactly the same pin used on the GPS module that comes with the Pioneer SPH-DA120

Today I figured out that there is need to swap red and yellow power supply cables.
This provides some power for headunit functions when engine is off.
Without it on every start I must set language, date and time. Also the unit doesn't remember last audio source (radio/usb/bluetooth) or last playing song.
Easy solution, big difference

Below some image of this (not my own, found on web).
