Hi,

Im just wondering what mpg other people get out of their GTV's?
I currently do mostly motorway driving and get on average 350 miles from a full tank out of my 1996 2ltr T spark.

Just looking to see if this is good bad or average for this car.

Cheers

63L + 7L reserve.

I used to get around 360 -> 380 from my GTV TS with Teledials on, and 380 -> 410 with 16" Teardrops. Once I had 440 miles.

Once warmed up, it was pretty much only ever driven 'quickly'.

I get exactly the same mpg as above and think that is quite normal for a 2.0ltr performance
engine, if i drive with care i never seem to get more than 30+mpg, but like most i don't watch the fuel gauge as i'm too busy enjoying the drive which is always using the full performance on offer, when the roads are clear.

i just used this on mine , works out at 20 mpg !!! I do need a new thermastat though, Normally just put ÂŁ20 a week in at ÂŁ1.10 per litre and am lucky to get 80- 100 miles , i do have a short trip to work though .

Maths bit

18 ltrs = 100 miles
62 litres = 344.72 Miles

Never filled up fully as it costs to much and i would want to go to new far away places ;)

350 in the TS? Have you checked tyre pressure/themostats/used 10/60 oil?

Without wanting to make too much of thing/attract attention over how I drive (which is carefully, promise!), I don't think it's possible that you can be driving a lot harder safely. My driving is somewhere between mixed town/mway and town. So surely there's something you can do to improve MPG?

I'd hope to approach 350miles in the V6 if all motorway at sensibleish speeds.

Yeah, I went through everything when I first got it.

I haven't been on a long journey in a while so not sure what it would be like were I to drive it economically, last time I went to Manchester in it I got 347 miles before the light came on though.

If I drive sensibly I get a near respectable 22mpg around town, I just lack the discipline most of the time so Ican't really complain.

I've had my 2.0 TS for 6 weeks now and everytime the petrol light has come on i fill it right up but i can only get 50 litres in and i've only been getting 250 miles till the light comes on again which only works out at 24mpg, mainly town driving but some dual carraigeway too, and only ever putting my foot down occasionally so was hoping i'd get better mpg than that. i put a new thermostat on as soon as i bought the car coz it was taking too long to warm up and i regurlarly check my tyre presures. not much else i can do to improve mpg is there folks? also if i can only get 50L in when light comes on i must have 20L in reserve, thats obviously not right is it? mind you the light comes on when it's showing about 1/8th of a tank left, is this right? Oh and does the light start flashing when it gets really low?

Thanks in advance

Seems very poor Daz, thing there must be something wrong somewhere but can't suggest what. Get about 28 - 32 out of mine in a mix of urban and fast road stuff.

Can't help you on the light either, never had mine come on so suspect that it's faulty as I reckon I've been low enough on fuel to trigger it. Not looked into this, can't be bothered !

You're right, the only stop start part of the (outbound) of the journey is where I have to go through 30/40mph zones and as the engine is cold, I tend to keep it under 3000 rpm for most of that time.
Then after about three miles I get to the A23 :) - I don't tend to drive her that fast in the mornings either, which probably helps.

My 2000 2.0 Lusso is currently doing 250 miles out of a full tank and almost all of my driving is motorway!!

I used to get a lot more, around 350 per tank. I'm going to check tyre pressures later, but recently my exhaust fumes have been smelling a bit strong.

Could some sort of sensor went causing the fuel mixture to mess up??

Assuming your 'stat is okay, then it could be your lambda sensor starting to fail? May be worth getting it hooked up to examiner at your local indy. They'll tell you whether its still operating within its correct perameters. If it needs replacing, then I reckon you're looking at around ÂŁ80 (plus around ÂŁ35 -ÂŁ40 for the initial diagnostic test) to have them change it.

Got a phase 2, 2.0 TS (98 version with variable length intake manifold ) and recently pulled out 280 miles with very enthusiastic driving. I reckon if I really pushed it and was a little more light footed I could do 350 miles (maybe thats being too hopefull :p )

Also as stated in workshop manual the tank on the 2.0 TS is actually 70 litres + ~ 9 reserve.

i have done about 150 mile and the needle is still above the half way mark, so i would expect to see 300/320 out of my 20TS.
That is on a mixed run as well

My Vauxhall Omega can do about 1600 miles on a gallon of petrol, but then it's dual fuel and spends all of its life running LPG

is the tank definatly 70 litres plus 9reserve? because i ran out of fuel maening it was dead empty,i put in 2litres to get it to a petrol station and then i could only get in 65litres.meaning my tank is pressumably around 67litres!! i couldnt get any more in either!!
On my europe trip i did 365miles to the 65litres,my stat is knackered and i was going 80mph on the motorway.
iv found a good link to work out mpg, type "torque cars mpg" in google and click on the top result.work it out and shed some tears!!!
