Hi all,

I have a problem with my 159 original xenon units.
At first my left beam stopped working sometimes, so I went to a specialised xenon-shop nearby to replace the bulb (D1S).

After checking the bulb, they did not find it faulty and said it had to be the ballast (sorry, do not know if this is the correct english term, i.e. the unit under the lights).

So they replaced the left ballast and both D1S bulbs (left and right).
No more problem with failing light, and me happy :)

However, when I went out that night I noticed the beams NOT going down and up when I lighted them. They just stay fixed in one position.

Anyone ever had this problem before, and know where to look or what to do?

(PS I am from the Netherlands, so it is a LHD)

Thnx, while you were typing, this is exactly what I did

I set up my laptop and Multi EcuScan and checked for errors, used the green adaptor for the ELM327 calbe, and .....
I can not connect to the ECU for the left Xenon. I can connect to the right xenon ECU, and there is an error B1030. Master/Slave Communication error.

Can anybody tell me where the left xenon ecu is located? Is it part of the ballast they replaced?

I also have a warning about the left parking light sometimes (in the body ECU), which I think is because of the LED light that is placed there (though they are canbus leds). It always disappear when I turn my parking lights on, and only popup sometimes when I insert the key (so not Always).

Any help is appriciated

Problem solved a few weeks ago. The xenon shop had placed a unit that looked axactly the same, but was made for an Audi A3. According to the supplier this was the same.
Found out the version number of alfa ended with 123, audi version ended with 115. The shop ordered the alfa version and replaced it for free. Everything working fine again, including the connection to the ecu.

I learned this the hard way, ordered a new ballast to my 159 and got the one ending with 115. No adjustment and no shutter when putting on the main beam, swapped the ballasts around and the original worked flawlessly in the master while not working in the slave with the 115 in the master. So if you need to replace the ballast, make sure it is the 123 ending version. Ordered a secondhand original, hope it works.
