FWIW, I changed the solenoid on the EGR. I think it's made a small difference but not huge. It's easier to get axle tramp now.
My EGR is blanked in the ecu so I guess its always on. I occasionally get EGR valve fault codes so might be related to old solenoid.

What I did notice was the short length of hose between the valve and the cooler was very loose at the cooler side. Could be a potential source of vacuum leaks (it wasn't in my case).

Easy part to replace.

I bought the cheap one btw https://www.autodoc.co.uk/meat-doria/7758277

Despite all I've tried on this car I still notice the following

1 - Low rev response is poor, Most vans I've drive feel better in that range.
2 - there is no 'kick' when changing gear. I would expect there to be a noticeable jerk when going hard and changing gear. I can only get this with this car if I keep my foot on the accelerator between gears. Is this normal?

Edit, I missunderstood.

1.-What do you mean with low rev? My Alfa works good around 1700 rpm and now is able to accelerate under all conditions, before changing the solenoid only around 2200 rpm i was feeling the turbo´s work and not always, going up in a hill sometimes it was stuck and not able to accelerate at all.
2. Well, this I don´t know, it´s a diesel. And this could be even the clutch not the engine.

It could be the clutch, that had occurred to me - 166000 miles!

I have a blanking plate for the EGR so I'll stick that in.
I have a notion to clean the throttle body.

I sometimes get a turbo temp sensor fault so maybe there is something there.

Pretty confident I've sorted the vacuum system now.

I'd like to try a similar car that is working right- maybe i expect too much.

My 2 litre was sluggish at low revs but no fault registered. My remap from AHM + EGR delete cured all that. Still rumnning sweet at 181k.
