Its very simple.

The Q -system is an Automatic gearbox. Do not confuse it with a Selespeed, as the selespeed is a manual gearbox with an electro-hydrolic clutch.

The Q-system is an automatic in that, There is the usual "P"ark, "R"everse, "N"eutral and "D"rive, but when in "D" position, you can push the lever to the left for manual changing of gears.

The Q system Manual gearchange is not like the normal (BMW/Porsche) Steptronic/Tiptronic sequential style of Push forward to change up and pull back to change down gears.

IN the Q system, the driver sees the gear change as a typical H-gate.

Its a very good system IMO. Nice smooth gearchanges. I still prefer the selespeed gearbox, but unfortunately, its only available on the 2.0 TS engines (apart from new 156 GTA that is). :)

Japanese Gearbox in an Italian Car?

No I didn't know that.

The 6 speed Manual gearbox coupled with the V6 has just (last month) been made available in Australia.

Up till recently only the Q system was available with the 2.5 V6 in 156.

I don't know what the used car prices of a 156 V6 with Q system are like in Israel, but in the Australian used car market, the Q-system equipped cars don't hold their value well at all.

A 2~3 Year old V6 Q-system is about the same price as a 2 Year old 2.0 Selespeed.

I would say that the Q-system on the loan car I had was a very entertaining gearbox and well made, as manual gearchanges were fairly responsive, and the engine was wonderful.

Good Luck with your decision.

Q system box is made in Japan, is at Nissin (not Nissan!) box.

IMO it doesn't really suit the car, the ratios don't seem right and it shows up the 2.5s comparative lack of torque.

In the UK it's a nightmare on the used car market, it has to be very cheap to move on.

I'd go for a manual unless you really must have an Auto. One thing it will probably be a lot more reliable than the Selespeed.
