First posting and asking for your input. Car 156 JTS 04 plate, recently had failure message,
`engine control system failure', followed by the heartwarming direction `Go to dealer'. I did go to dealer to have the problem diagnosed £65 later I am told that the fault is the cat and for £1560 they will solve the problem for me. I bet they will.
I have looked at the sensors (CF3 engine with cats on downpipes) and see nothing untoward, peering down the sensor holes shows very clean and tidy honeycomb effect in the cat. Really how often do cats fail unless you are stupid enough to run leaded fuel through it? The car is running perfectly and fuel consumption is unaffected. I could fit ne sensors but even that isn't cheap at £69ish apiece, particularly if it then turns out that the cat IS u/s.
I don't intend to pay out £1560 anyway as I have found cheaper options which meet the EU regs which come in on August 19th, trouble is I just can't see where the cat can be the problem when it is having zero effect on the engimne performance. Might just have to wait to see how it fares on the emissions at the next MOT, but until then the warning bleep is driving me nuts.
Also I do my own servicing so am faced with the Service overdue message, any way of resetting the damn thing?
