Hi
Any suggestions or recommendations on the upgrading of my recently purchased 2004, 156 2.4jtd 20v veloce sportwagon would be much appreciated.

The car has only done 45000 miles and am planning to keep it for many years.

Concerns and priority are brakes and suspension.....scary!

Brakes: Ds2500 pads appear to be best like for like replacements along with new discs, but with so many 284mm to choose from. vented, drilled, solid???

Would love to get hold of Brembo GT upgrade kit (discs up to 305mm) but for the ÂŁ1200 outlay. Any suggestions or alternatives???

Suspension: Speed bumps driving me crazy! Front end bottoming a low low speeds???
Like the idea of renewing everything down below. Also many kits out there but any suggestions or recommendations for my specific model?

Further on be looking at adding
Re-Map. Any recommendations?
!7'' alloys (on the way) refurb and store until after our winter here in uk is over
16'' Conti winter tyres (on the way) to go on my multispokes
ICE (on the way)
cruise control stalk (hard to find)
Leather interior (in the shed) fitting next week end
Exhaust/back box tail pipe???

Any other suggestions or comments would be great. Thx

Apart from that I think you've got it pretty well covered, the suspension on the Veloce is good enough, although you probably could go with some uprated ARBs, de-cat, in addition look at getting a quaiffe LSD it will make all the difference to getting the power down

suspension - Koni FSD + Eibach Pro kit springs + Eibach anti-roll-bars - lowered, tougher (but still comfortable over the bumps), no diving, superb cornering

Thanks for the link Chris
Any recommedations on this bit of kit?
EIBACH Anti-Roll-Kit ALFA 156 932 EST 00-06
or other suggestions
?
Will/am looking at the Quaife LSD and need to find out more on the decat

The Eibach kit is about the best there is, trouble is though I've heard it can start to "squeak" over time, the other alternative is putting the ARBs from the GTA

#6 ·
Thanks Yan
I have read other posts recommending Koni FSD + Eibach Pro kit springs + Eibach anti-roll-bars
but I dont know if the Koni FSD will fit my 156 2.4 20v veloce. I see some are excluded? Self levelling systems?

#9 ·
I haven't looked into it too much, but I believe that you can fit it to one with the self levelling system, but the self leveling system won't work anymore.

As I said the Veloce suspension is not bad so give it a try first and see if you like it.

Seat Leon front splitter
Front mounted intercooler

leon splitter looks cool. FMI|C improves air cooling capacity to the inlet track reducing inlet temps. Improved performance through more dense air

#11 ·
If you have self levelling you will need top mounts and some rubber pieces from the rear suspension of a non self-levelling car, I can help with that if it comes to it.

Koni FSDs are great, go for it

As for a brake upgrade, you could fit hub carriers & 4-pot Brembo calipers from the 156 GTA. Coupled with some lowering springs, these hub carriers give slightly less negative camber due to them having revised geometry for a lower standard rideheight. So reducing understeer especially in the wet weather is improved.

Thanks for the help Pud. I will get back to you once i know where i stand with my suspension.
Regarding the brake upgrade, I will look into the costs involved in getting the hub carriers and 4 pot brembo calipers from a GTA. Any advise there would also be much appreciated.

Same thing I have done :D Well worth it IMO

A pair of mito brembo calibers with 305mm gta discs would fit nicely ,and do the job just fine.
Got them on my 247bhp 20v sportwagon ;) Never had any problems like warping etc

#19 ·
What have you done to get upto 247bhp? Do you have an LSD installed?

I bet they are a big improvement over 284mm discs but they look a bit small behind those wheels, are they 19"?

#20 ·
decat, modded turbo , modded inlet without egr , fmic, wmi . "dutch" hp on very concervative dyno ;) also does 515nm!
No lsd..
those are 19"s en they did make the 305's look small and drove like ****! swapped them for 18" gt's

Not advisable to fit Eibach Pro springs on the self-levelling (Nivomat) shocks. I don't even know if it is possible, but it is definitely not advisable. The Eibach ARB kit will be fine though, if you can find someone who has a set in stock.

The self-levelling part of the system is part of the shock absorber, it is nothing particularly technical. To get rid of it you simply replace the shocks with saloon ones. Also requires replacement top mount & spring as they are different.

Alfa aid in Maidenhead just confirmed i have the self levelling system. Took my chassis number, told me I didn't, then took a look at the car and kindly told me I do indeed have the nivomats!
The search for Eibach arb's begins, any clues?
Also need a cam change and full service, quoted ÂŁ750!!!

I've decided to stay with 284 discs size as for now.

I've ordered the following brake parts:
DS2500 front pads
DS Performance rear pads
OEM rear disc
Autodelta brake hoses
Front disc: not yet decided, OEM, black diamond 6 groove, brembo max????

Suspension parts ordered:
Eibach spring kit for Nivomat
Eibach ARB's
Looking at the Zeatek Undertray from alfastumper and considering getting new wishbones

Also ordered:
K&N air filter

Sold my old ride, a Saab Aero the first viewer:)

Great mid/week drive London/Nottingham/ Leeds. Took it easy from London to notts, dropped off my off my daughter and then gave it a bit of welly up to Leeds to collect 17'' Ti Alloys ;)

Full grey leather interior in the shed along with winter tyres ready to go on my 16'' multispokes(winter weels)

Its coming together:thumbs:

Front brake disc - I would go for OEM.

Eibach spring kit for Nivomat - this is just a pair of front springs isn't it?

Eibach ARBs - where have you ordered these from?

#31 ·
Looking at OEM discs right now.

Yes it's just front springs with nivomat.

ARB's online at Larkspeed. Not sure if they got them for my SW and a call. I have seen them advertized as in stock elsewhere in case but not sure if any about???

Would you recommend changing wishbones at the same time?

#32 ·
Yeah you should really change wishbones at the same time, unless they are pretty new already. If they are all a few years old, then they will be past their best, even if not showing signs of outright play.

#34 ·
I've now ordered OEM discs for the front as well as rear, and put the difference towards an ally undertray from alfastomper

Larkspeed have informed me that the Eibach ARB kit will be available again in January and that no-one in the UK has them :(

Anyone know where I could get a set?

#35 ·
They're all out of stock worldwide as far as I know, unless there's a dusty set sat on someones shelves somewhere. I thought thats what Larkspeed would say, we are also an Eibach distributor.

#36 ·
Found a company claiming to have ten sets......in France!
Will know for sure tomorrow, fingers crossed, it's the only missing piece and crucial I get hold of this month.
Picked up cruise control on eBay yesterday :D.

#38 ·
No luck i'm afraid. Looks like i'm going to have to make do with a gta arb.....for now.

AR who have also confirmed that I have a Nivomat self levelling system and a sport pack option.
I've been quoted by AR ÂŁ86 pounds for a single front shock for my car, would you know if there are any other suitable/better options than the standard to fit to my front end.

#39 ·
If I was you I would get rid of the Nivomats, I would get a pair of uprated shocks, something like Koni FSD, or the Eibach Pro system dampers, a full set of springs to match, some good used GTA ones would be OK if you didn't want very much of a drop, or Eibach Pro springs for a nice 30mm drop. You would also need a pair of rear top mounts, some rubber pieces like the rings that sit on top of the springs, the covers for the damper rods etc, and all those bits you can mostly pick up 2nd hand for not a lot.
