Sump Change/Problem?

I recently caught a metal steak sticking out of the ground which ripped a part of my sump tank. The oil drained out almost immediately and i only drove it for a maximum of 30 yards before turning off the engine-I replaced the sump tank re-filled with oil and now my oil light wont turn off. On top of that its making an awful noise as if oil isnt being sent through the engine? Does anyone know what has caused this or how to remedy it? Ive been told its probably the oil pump but I want a second opinion? If this is the case anyone know ehere the best place to get one is and how easy/costly it is to replace?

How long did you run it with the oil PRESSURE light on?

When i first did it all i ran it for about 20 mins. Have then emptied any excess oil and taken it back down to around 5litres in the engine and ran it for another 20mins or so

40-minutes with no oil pressure.....!

Also, how was there "excess" oil in the engine?
(it takes 4.4L)

But after running for so long with no oil the bearings will be in a poor state now.

So sell it for scrap? We basically overfilled with oil in hope that the pump would pick it up should it of not been operating properly?

Any suggestion of where to go from here or literally call it a lost cause?

did you remove the pick up pipe? Perhaps you re-fitted the gasket incorrectly which is blocking the pick up.

as a general rule, unless the light cancels within 5 sec's you turn off the engine ..... 20 min's your engine is toast
