reverse lights not workin?????????????

my reverse lights havnt worked since i bought the car but is now startin 2 **** me off, darker nites n all that.i know its not the bulbs.i had a look underneath and noticed that the little plug thing wasnt connected to the gearbox so i pushed it in and hey presto reverse lights are workin BUT NOW NO RADIO ELEC WINDOWS BRAKE LITES. SO I UNPLUGGED THE CONNECTER THING FROM GEARBOX AND CHANGED THE 1 FUSE THAT DOES THE RADIO ETC NOW BACK 2 SQUARE 1 SO I PLUG THE THING BACK IN START THE CAR ALL ELECS FINE DRIVE 4 HOWEVER LONG THEN AS SOON AS I SELECT REVERSE POP GOES THE 20 AMP FUSE NO ELEC WINDOWS ETC
PLEASE HELP I DONT WANT
2 TAKE 2 A GARAGE AND GET STUNG

Obviously this has been a problem previously and the last owner disconnected the plug. Try and get an auto electrician to look at it rather than taking it to a garage.

Maybe you could get him to have a look at your sticking Caps Lock key while you're there. ;)

Seems to have effected you keyboard too :eek: ;)

My guesses are:

1. you plugged in the wrong connector.

2. The reverse switch or wiring to the switch is shorting around the gear box causing the fuse to blow.

as a test you could, assuming you are sure the connector is the correct one, short the 2 pin together [ uisng a paper clip ] & see if the fuse blow or if thelight work.

if the fuse blow, oyu have a wiring issue, if the the lights work then the switch is defective ... does that make any logical sense?
