Yeah,
£250 is way over the top.
Is it bottom or Top arm thats gone?
If it's top you can get the part delivered for £66, fitting takes about 20 minutes (from experience) so a garage would probably charge an hours labour.
I haven't had any bottom arms replaced yet but at £120 from the other link you should still get change from £200 fitted.

£250 was a fitted price!? thats not actually too bad... what part manufacturer did they use?Lower wishbone - guessing labour got me.

Possibly 'FAI' ive not heard good or bad things about em, would be interesting to know the service life of them I'm sure you'll be back to tell us when/if it fails...
I'm one for only using really good branded stuff, only because I've been bitten by cheap replacements and the work involved in replacing wasn't worth the money i saved... although i do have the added bonus of being able to wield spanners, takes the Labour rate from all my jobs so i can afford to buy better parts. i could never run a 159 and a Fiat Coupe if i had to pay someone to work on them (having said that the coupe needs to go for timing & ancillary belts but i have a good price for that and its not worth tackling myself, its VERY tight in the coupe engine bay)
I got lemforder ones from Euro car parts, with a discount code for 358 for the pair of lower
Maks me wonder why Alfa ones are twice the average for the part compared to something like a bmw.
Done 1000 miles and nothing has fallen off yet. Handling is pin sharp.
I do have a secondhand oem pair that probably only need the big 50p Bush changing, just in case .

I have 159 ti 2.4 which for some time now has had some play in the steering most notably on the motorway when changing lanes or when going over crowned surfaces.
To this end I had her checked out by a specialist who told me that It was the bushes on the lower arms both side and also on the left upper.
I got her booked in to be done, the lower bushes were replaced with a poly bush but they told me that the upper did not need doing as there was no play.
I also had two contis put on and the alignment done all was good the car came back feeling so much better but not 100% I still felt there was a little play some where
A year or so later during an MOT I was told it need it upper left wishbone replacing bushes gone. so I booked it in to be done and same again they said although the bush looked deteriorated there was no sign of play.
I am now looking to get to the bottom of this and get it sorted out but every garage I take it to get checked out say there's nothing wrong with it ( apart from when shes up for an MOT)
The only other thing I have noticed is the steering wheel likes to sit slightly to the left , you can hold it straight and the car goes straight but if you let go of the wheel it will sit slightly to the left but the car still goes straight. Some times when accelerating perhaps going from 1st to 2nd gear I can sometimes feel the steering wheel give a slight pull to one side which made me think of the track rod ends but again different garages tell me all is okay.
Your thoughts please gents (or anybody)?
the car is 2010 model I have had for three years it has around 78k on the clock the suspension never makes any noises and the ride is whisper quiet
What are the symptoms of upper wishbone failure ?
could it be track rod ends ?
to anybody who's had the uppers replaced what were the symptoms ? and what did replacing them fix?

Your strange steering wheel effect is due to the rear wheel alignment. If you have one rear wheel out of alignment then the rear slightly 'crabs' to compensate. You then have to turn the steering wheel to keep the car moving straight. On top of this somebody has adjusted the fronts so that a 'straight' steering wheel keeps the car pointing correctly (but now fighting the rear wheel alignment).

When I had the alignment done It was mentioned that the rear thrust angle or I total toe was slightly out which was corrected but I never felt(or maybe noticed) the crabbing effect on this car before and it was not out by a significant amount.
But I think from what your saying I will get the rear end checked out. Is there any thing specific on the rear that wears out joints , bushes ? I've not come across many threads about the rear ( apart from broken springs)
but from a front end perspective does changing upper wishbones cure any play in the front end ? or steering ? (what tends to wear out the ball joint or bushes)
A guy from work is telling me to get the inner track rods checked out and to check for uneven tyre wear but we both looked at the car today and the tyre tread still looks very good and surprisingly even
what do you think ?
its just the play that annoys me more thank anything else but still a lot better than what is was. If I could dial it out or fix it I would be happy.
