Hi, One and All,:)

Have watched a program
"How do they do that."
Aprogram which shows the constuction
of so many things
I was taken, by the lack of people
being employed,other than in
the packing and distribution of
finished article,
machines and robots being the "key Workers".

As a full blown Luddite,
I ask" am I wrong or right,
when I say it`s time too slow
their usage down,?"
for the ramifcations of the producers,
Machinations
do not bode well for the future living/breathing "workforce"
thru out the globe.
Sorry too sound so morbid at this time of year
Just thinking of my grandchildrens future ,
for whom I hold more than a little fear.

John the Luddite.

John I love that program tis one of my favorites

You should see our place, loads of CNC machines

But lots of inspectors beacuse they are aircraft parts.

Our place is expanding and we're comitted to taking on 5 apprentices at all three sites for the next 5 years

I agree John, I always go to an employee at the checkout even though there is now the option
to just 'scan' the items myself. People need jobs in order to pay the taxes that keep our countries running.
I'm sure that is a simplified answer to a very complex question, I took Economics 101 many years ago. ;)

Hi,Classicgal.:)

Trust all`s well in the snow?

I have found in my few years on this earth
that there is a quiet dignity in labour
beit mental or manual.
I cannot for the life of me
see where it will all end.
a machine ,working faster than the old machine
whilst the only thing gaing pace
is poverty,and lack of dignity.

Computerisation was supposed to free up time for everyone by doing the mundane tasks. My view is that they have have only freed up time for those they replaced, the rest are working even harder to keep pace.

Agreed----People need work, all of us have to feel important/successful, in this world of machinery/computers.

Stop the world I want to get off
I worry for the future of the workforce
Two steps forward and three steps back
The too high price we pay for advanced claptrap
Would the world be a better place with fewer robots
With less technology taking jobs from poor folks

Wind back the clock to a simpler time
To before we had our medicine sublime
No vaccinations for small pox, polio or flu
But plenty of jobs for me and for you

Hi,100th(refuse too call you an idiot):)

Very good,
Though the Darker side is
more evil.
Many people are accused of the crime
of living off the state,
an expression I hate,
such things can bring about chaos.
me thinks.

The factories closed
To people only, goods flow
It's cold out of doors

What a thought-provoking and big picture post, JTL.

I too wonder, whether mechanisation/computerisation is really to the advantage of mankind?

There can indeed be a certain loss of human dignity in the slavish drive towards complete mechanisation and automation. Man needs to physically toil as well as think - to consider otherwise is sheer folly.

Honest toil is at the root of humanity and society, be it mental or physical. For the former to make the latter irrelevant is a dangerous venture. But one that I feel may be out of control.
