I just had a quote back from Adrian Flux via email, I had good quotes for 550 from other comparison websites, and having read about the good quotes from AF I was quite looking forward to a better estimate, but to my surprise I was quoted a whopping 860 quid! :wow:

A friend suggested the reason might be my foreign license (Full EU one with no convictions whatsoever), because for everything else I should get way better quotes..

any ideas?

I doubt your foreign licence has anything to do with it? I was quoted £1,400 by AF for my daily driver 916 twinspark Spider. Im 42yrs, licence since 17 years, 3 points for speeding and 14 yrs no-claims bonus. I ended up going with Admiral who quoted me £305 for full comp with protected no claims.

I think they're better for modified cars or higher risk. Admiral seem to love no claims, admiral were by far the lowest for me out of everyone despite having 9 points.

I was with them because I had declared the mods on my 147 and the price wasn't too bad considering there was quite a few things done to it. Changed over midway through to my Brera S which is standard and as mentioned the renewal is obscene.

I was with admiral for a few years because they were consstantly cheapest, bt last year esure beat them significantly.

I've been swapping between admiral, elephant and esure for the last few years. admiral and elephant are one and the same and only ever beat each other by a few quid and would always match the other's price, but I always swap as I feel they should give me their best price to start with.

Just a point...if you're resident in this country, don't you have to swap your licence for a UK one after a year?.......ah, just checked, its 3 years....:

"A valid community licence issued on the strength of a driving test within the EC/EEA, will allow you to drive in GB for a set period. Alternatively, you can exchange your licence for a British licence.

Provided your licence remains valid you may drive in GB:

Car, motorcycle driving licence holders (ordinary driving licence):

until aged 70 or for three years after becoming resident, whichever is the longer period"

Went with AF 2 years ago as needed an agreed value of £8k to cover cost of replacement (car has had £1000's spent on it and is mint) - also some mild mods - suspension, exhaust, induction, brakes etc. They agreed the value over the phone and said sending in photos and a independent valuation was a mere formaility....... HOWEVER........ I pay in full and later get the paperwork.... No they wont give me the valuation, the best they will do is £4k (for no less premium money) and they wont accept my written valuation from an independant Alfa specialist (or from the AROC). Eventually they tell me I have to get a written valuation report following an engineers inspection by one of their listed vehicle assessors.... After several phone calls one of these assessors was good enough to tell me what idiots these insurance companies are and agreed to do me a free valuation (Normally very much chargeable).

Eventually they agree the value. Last year stayed with them another year because I couldnt be bothered with any more aggro and its VERY hard to get agreed value on a 'modern' car.

Then get recommended need2insure. Tried them, they accept the valuation, just want photos and a letter from my mechanic, AND quoted £495 - Flux wanted £780!!

Wont go near AF again if I can avoid it.

I think I've changed insurance companies every year on every car I have ever had as when renewal time comes, the existing company is never the best...by a large margin.

They simply rely on lazy people simply reinsuring.

My Giulietta is due soon, but I just went to reinsure my X Trail.
Existing company, £450+

Details fed into the on-line one stop shop advertised by the large shouty man with the silly moustache, under £300. Same benefits etc.

I already know that when my Alfa renewal comes up, whoever I am using currently will be a lot more expensive than someone new.

No one seems to want repeat business these days, simply new business.

Why should that be rewarded?

I don't...
