it's not a life-threatening big deal, but it annoys me that we now have 6 stickies on this 'room'.

The italian restaurant thread had around 20 posts in 2011, can we not unstick it? People will find it if they need it, but I'm guessing it isn't front page material.

And the chat thread - cut it free and let it thrive in the room, but does it need to be stuck?

same with the "Way Off Topic - what does belong in here?" post

these should be relevant and current in my opinion

Or not as the case may be ;)

Actually I think that should remain ( & be read :NUTTER: :HEADBANG: ) to be highlighted to anyone who decides to throw a few toys around  when a thread gets moved or merged

I guess it depends on what we think stickies are there for.

My take on it is that they are there to provide information
that is regularly required and save people having to use the
search function. The number of posts is probably not the
best measure of the effectiveness of a sticky rather the
number of reads. A very useful sticky may have only one
post on it but over 100,000 reads. Whereas a less usefull
one may have 100 posts and only 100 reads indicating that
it is only used by those who post in it and nobody else.

If stickies are causing a problem then perhaps we should
ask why and see if there is a better way of making useful
information easily accessible rather than letting them sink
without trace. Some provide information which people may
not even think to ask or do a search on. Making them a
sticky has probably been the best way to draw them to
peoples attention.

Perhaps a lounge containing nothing but stickies is an
alternative. I don't know but I would have thought it
would be better to try and find a compromise before we
change anything rather than having to come up with one
after the event.

to me (so let's count me pretty much out of it) ... there are some "stuck" things
that would not hurt to be removed

I'd agree to a cull if there were loads and they were mostly useless :)

The Restraunt thread, I look at if Jan and I are having a weekend away.
the what belongs in WOT is good rules at the top of the page is

The Chillie thread is a good Idea :D
The sharing computer thread thing I don't get but I don't read it

The Charity thread gets a

That only leaves the chat thread, but I chat like a demon in a few lounges so I don't use it :)

To pick on a some of them:

There are many differing cuisines, why single out Italian?

Folding thread is 'technology' related, so is in the wrong lounge now?

No idea why the chilli one is there.

Nom Nom I think the Cuisine thing is because we own Italian cars and it seems to be a popular stlye of food on here but I think a welcome change to that might be a good any style restraunt in you have visited :)

The folding thread does indeed belong in the Technology section, IIRC there is a tool on the mod CP to lock a thread and post a redirect, when folk have got used to the new location the original gets moved/merged

The Chillie one is there because we don't have or need a gardening section, we currently have no competition thread and Keithy came up with the idea :)

It's a new sticky and I'm enjoying it and so are a few other folks

I asked Joyce to make it a sticky and she agreed :)

Nom Nom Grow a Chillie

The restaurant sticky is daft. The folding sticky is in the wrong lounge. The chilli challenge will presumably get regular update bumps anyway and doesn't need to be stuck.

The chat thread being stuck has not has not stopped other chat threads from growing. Perhaps all the chat threads could be stuck on a rota - a "chat thread of the month" - and left to take their chances otherwise? It would certainly beat merging them. Similarly, it makes sense to stick the current fund raising idea and replace it with the next one when necessary.

Finally, the rules sticky. It has a cast iron case for staying stuck (although it would be quite funny to let it sink only to later bump and quote from it when someone has complained about a move or merge!)
