i've determine that my n/s (left) handbrake cable is excessively stiff. as described in the forums, the rubber end caps have perished, so water and grime have presumably made there way into the outer sleeve, and are fouling the movement of the cable. i've had the cable off the car, and tried some 'liquid wax' dry lubricant (bicycle stuff!), but hasn't helped sufficiently.

the result is that the brake pads can be stuck, and therefore constantly engaged with the disc. 'whirring', smell, and smoke got my attention!

the little lever on the rear caliper seems ok, but i haven't discounted a stuffed caliper either. but i'll start with the simple things.

can someone tell me the part number of the cable? or specifically, whether the following ebay items are compatible?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230290656312

car is a skinny '94 2L 8V.

otherwise, i'll buy one from EB Spares.

:)

Best get the nylon coated inner, genuine, imho. As I am no longer enticed by performance, I shall head eventually, for a vehicle with a rear drum braking system.More effective handbrake, and easier to maintain the protection of the cables etc. against the salt ravages we get here through the winter? I'm most ancient in my views as I become decrepit with age.:D
