Think Quinn means he used to be able to close his own threads...not others though. I'm not aware that this has been stopped, perhaps Ian or Selespeed can comment but to be honest I don't understand the need for it anyway.....if we're talking about the same issue

...no probs, I think I said something about being able to close
the "anonimity in the chatroom" thread and that you did anyway,
which I appreciated :)

Still don't think its a good idea personally...kind like geting the last word in an argument..if you dont like some of the responses just close your thread...rather churlish to me.

We had a huge bust up on here ages ago about someone (who will remain nameless!) deleting their own thread and what that does to the other contributors posts and thoughts (deleted them too!)...kinda the same thing to me..but not as bad! :D

...yup Wrinx, that's what I mean

it's just that I wouldn't have minded closing off the "anonimity in the
chatroom" thread...which u did, thankfully :)
You could alway stop replying to them ;)...or even ask a Moderator to close them, this has happened a few times and if we agree there's no problem :d

:)

fair enough...but I wasn't talking about deleting threads...just closing em
and leaving the evidence for all too see :)

interesting to note that in the last instance you agreed with me, ie
you closed the thread after I'd said I would have liked it closed...

'cos you'd kinda asked for it to be closed ;)

Can I close this one now too? :D

There is a reason for not giving the members the opportunity to close (their own) threads.

Closing a thread is a kind of a last resort, only if we want to be absolutely sure there will be no replies to a thread we will close the thread. And that usually only happens if a thread turns into a personal fight / or an attack on a personal level.

We don't close threads because a question is answered, a question is withdrawn, a subject is no longer relevant and so on. The reason for this is, that it is always possible that other members may even have better answers or shine a different light on the matter.

I just (temporarily) managed to close my thread...so it is readily available

...We can close our own...so...point irrelavent...my mistake... :D

I still think my point was lost in the ether...I was talking about
members of the site being able to shut down their own threads

NOT moderators cutting them off  :D

That was wierd, in the past when you've locked a post I've been able to reply but couldn't this time

Sorry, but I think this "ability" should be removed.

I think u have a good point there Steve...but I'd just like it to be
clear...I don't agree with you...but if others do then...I'm in a minority
of one (it seems) :D :D :D

What you should have done Quinn was say:

"I think u have a good point there Steve...but I'd just like it to be
clear...I don't agree with you...but if others do then...they can post thier support here"

And then closed the thread.

...hmmm...interesting...but I think I quite like my minority of one :D

...and I'm certainly not gonna personally close the thread now...it just
wouldn't seem right somehow...

...Wrinx...will you do the honours please...and shut it down :D

I think the lesson here is:

"Think about your post BEFORE you post it"

That way, you won't ever have posted something you regret, and need to lock it to prevent it going on and on and on and...
