I had a whining noise mainly when moving the steering wheel at speed so I changed the left hand inner CV joint (I could feel movement between drive shaft and flange on this side). This has helped but still not perfect. I can still detect a noise mainly on braking. Do you think the other side could be gone or what? There was no detectable movement when I pulled at the right hand shaft.
By the way these joints are only £33 incuding VAT from a motor factors, it's just the hassle of changing it that puts me off.

c,v joint 'clunk' they dont whine..it could be the extension shaft bearing but its unlikely...first things first, have you cleaned all the brakes and made sure every thing is free and while you have it jacked up spin the wheels and listen for a wheel bearing.
